Jev Live Demo, God's Eye View and First Build with Gemini 3.8 Live
The Daily AI Show
September 17, 2026
The episode showed how quickly AI is moving beyond the familiar pattern of sending a prompt to one large model and waiting for an answer. It opened with evidence that Claude Fable 5.1 remains highly competitive with GPT-6 Astra for software engineering.

Hey, what's going on, everybody?

Welcome to The Daily AI Show. As Jeff is saying, it's time for coffee and AI. And I say, great, go for it. If it's coffee time, I say, go for it. Andy says he's ready. He's got it right there on his desk. I'm not a coffee drinker, but I fully support it.
With us today, we have Andy and Beth. Welcome back, Beth. Hope you're feeling better. Today is September 17th, 2026 And yeah, like I said, this is The Daily AI Show. We are live. We are live every single weekday at 10 a.m. and 7 a.m. Pacific. 10 a.m. Eastern and 7 a.m. Pacific. Yep, that's it.
And don't forget, you can keep hanging out with us. Not only can you be live like Jeff is, I know the people in the comments are ready, which is easiest way to do that is to join us live on YouTube. So if you happen to be around during this hour, then come join us live, because that's like a super fun way to be interactive with the show. We read the comments. We bring people's perspectives in all the time. It's the unofficial extra co-host of the show, for sure.

But you can also...
I'm just going to say Jennifer Hufnagle gets the prize today for connecting with us while hiking in Portugal. If you think you can take Jennifer's trophy, please join us and let us know what you're doing and where you're doing it.
Andy (1:15)
That is very impressive. Jennifer, put down your phone.
Brian (1:21)
I'm very excited that you're in Portugal. I definitely want to hear that, Jennifer, when you get back or whatever. I spent a very little bit of time in Lisbon recently after the cruise I took.
Man, do I want to go back, but do not see any mountains. I definitely saw hills in Lisbon, but the city of Seven Hills, I think they call it. We definitely spent some time hiking up and down streets for sure.
Today, we're going to first kick off with something. Andy had coming out of the yesterday show that we just didn't get to. Andy is going to get us kicked off. But I want to tell you all, you make sure you're staying tuned in the show. I know I have two big things to share with you. One, I got a better chance to play with Gemini 3.8 Live this morning. Thought of a good use case for it and said, yeah, I think I have a good idea on how to do that. I am initially very impressed with it, so I'm going to share that. I also got access to JEV, the new not language model. It's not an LLM, but it's a model.
I have access to it. I will share inside the playground. I will show you some of their examples, so you can see what prompting looks like there. It makes me a little excited because it looks much more like when we did original prompting back in the playgrounds of OpenAI three and a half, four years ago, almost at this point, three and a half, I guess. I'll show you that, but then I'll also show you how I connected it directly to the API into Claude Code through the desktop, so I do not have to write those prompts. As much as I appreciate them, and they have to be written in certain JSON, I am not a coder, so making sure that I had a language model that also understood how to write those prompts. But then more importantly, we're gonna talk about why. Why JEV is such a crazy tool and where you would possibly use it. I can only tell you my use cases so far and where my brain has gone, but as I was saying to Beth right before the show, I'm glad Beth is here because this is directly in line with the kind of stuff Beth and I play with quite a bit. Lots come up on the show and of course, all the AI news that will be coming around the bend. But with all that, let's pause for a second and hand it over to Andy, because I know Andy, you wanted to talk, I think it was about another comparison of, was it Fable?
Andy (3:36)
It's some positive news for Fable for sure. It's in the general context of, yeah, has Codex with Astra just made Claude Code a thing of the past? My answer is no.
Lots of other people have the same experience, and there's a bunch of different positive evidence around that. I'll just say that I'm building this application with both Codex and with Opus 5 actually, not even using Fable.
