Jesus is so Fulfilling!
Data Over Dogma
January 19, 2026
Jesus fulfilled the law! It says so right there in Matthew. But what on earth does that actually mean? Different people have had vastly different interpretations of that idea, and the consequences of their ideas are significant! Are the old laws still in effect, or did Jesus abolish them?

I don't know about y'all, but the older I get, the more important it is to me that I get a good night's sleep.
Dan Beecher (0:05)
You know what, you getting a good night's sleep is important to me too.
Dan McClellan (0:10)
Particularly because I have a bad lower back because of a sports-related injury from when I was younger, but it has always been important to me to have a firm mattress. And when I ordered my Brooklyn Bedding Plank Firm Luxe California King, it actually didn't go immediately into my bedroom. We actually set it up in the guest room with the intention of then switching out our old mattress afterwards. And there was a night when I was really, really, really sick and I didn't want to bug my wife. So I went and slept in the guest bed and moved the mattress into our bedroom the very next day while I was still sick because I was like, okay, this is a superior mattress and it has the glaciotex covers, it's got the Copper Flex Foam. I am a hot sleeper. I wake up drenched in sweat sometimes and no longer because this mattress keeps me nice and cool. I always have a good night's sleep on my Brooklyn bedding. California King playing Confirm Lux.
Dan Beecher (1:09)
Always bragging about that California King. Yeah, look, my Brooklyn bedding, I love it as well. And part of the thing that you need to know about them is that they handcraft every mattress in a factory in Arizona. There's not going to be any middlemen. There's no gimmicks. It just comes straight from them to you. It's a top tier quality, honestly priced mattress made with American craftsmanship. Their whole goal is just to give you a better night's sleep. And if you want a Brooklyn bedding mattress, but you're not sure that it'll serve your needs, get one because Brooklyn Bedding offers a 120 night comfort trial. You love it or they'll help you return it or swap it hassle-free.

And then Ashurbanipal came to power after S. R. Haddon.
Dan Beecher (2:22)
You're just making names up.
Dan McClellan (2:25)
I haven't even gotten to Tiglath-Paleaser III, okay? That's one of the greatest.
Dan Beecher (2:34)
I think that's one of the cats from the show Cats. Isn't it?
Dan McClellan (2:44)
Hey, everybody, I'm Dan McClellan.
Dan Beecher (2:46)
And I'm Dan Beecher.
Dan McClellan (2:47)
And this is Data Over Dogma, where we increase public access to the academic study of the Bible and religion, and we combat the spread of misinformation about the same. How are things today, Dan?
Dan Beecher (2:58)
Things are good. I recently saw a comment on our YouTube channel that just said, I'm always concerned because Dan M always asks Dan B how he's doing, and Dan B never asks Dan M back. So I'm fine. How are you, Dan?
Dan McClellan (3:18)
You know what? I'm doing all right. We've got normal like high school kid drama that we're trying to navigate here today.
But other than that, yeah, it's a beautiful day in the neighborhood. A little on the cold side, woke up to a little snow for the first time this year, apart from a dusting, I think the day after Christmas. But so I did have to scrape something off the car this morning, although actually not, I wasn't that difficult because now I have a new car that allows me to start it from my app. Yeah. 15 minutes before I go out there. So it was a lot easier.
Dan Beecher (3:57)
Nice and toasty by the time you get there, huh?
Dan McClellan (3:59)
Yes, yes, it was quite fun. I've never used the heat warmers. I don't like having directly under me very hot and then the edges that my thighs are touching cold. That is an off-putting sensation. So I don't know if other people are like, oh yeah, give me more of that, but I don't like that. So anyway, that's not what we're here to talk about.
Dan Beecher (4:19)
Yeah, and also this is why we don't actually, like we don't actually care how we're doing.
Dan McClellan (4:25)
We've already been talking for a few minutes before we actually start the recording.
Dan Beecher (4:29)
So if you hear Dan ask me how I'm doing and I don't reciprocate, it's because neither of us cares how the other is doing. What we do care about, however, is what's going to be on the show and coming up, we got a fun show today. We're going to be talking about the law being fulfilled and what that means. What did Jesus mean when he said he fulfilled the law? Because I have been very confused about that and I have been told very different things about what that ends up meaning.
