Another day, another injury for the Denver Broncos out at Broncos Park, powered by Common Spirit, for Broncos Training Camp. I'm gonna dive into that. Before we do, hit us with a thumbs up. Subscribe to this channel. Hit us with a thumbs up on this video. We appreciate it. We are here at every single Broncos practice, and we're gonna need all the updates we can get, because Broncos just keep going down. And on Wednesday, the biggest practice of camp was one of the biggest stars of the Broncos going down. It was Jaylen Waddle for a third straight day. Another Bronco had an injury on Monday. It was center Luke Wattenberg on Tuesday. It was Nik Bonitto. And on Wednesday, it was star receiver Jaylen Waddle. Waddle walked off the field with his helmet in his hand and no trainers with him. At first, it honestly appeared like a bathroom break. But after 30 minutes, it was pretty clear something else was going on with Jaylen Waddle, because he never returned to practice. And after practice, Sean Payton actually gave us some news on Waddle's status. He said that he'll be fine, but then said that he had, quote, muscle tightness. So something happened in a drill. He'd experienced muscle tightness. He just said, I'm done. I'm walking off the field. The good thing is Sean Payton said he's going to be fine. Now, Sean Payton has also said that about Wattenberg and Bonito, and both of them have not practiced since their respective injuries. I would not expect that Jaylen Waddle will be back at practice for the Broncos.
Tomorrow, but with Sean Payton saying he's fine, it should not impact the season.
We will stay tuned on this. The good news is we did see Nik Bonito and Luke Wattenberg at practice. They're walking around just fine. They just did not practice. So that's kind of the ideal step to see with Jaylen Waddle tomorrow. I mean, the most ideal thing is to see him practicing, but I think that's getting our hopes a little bit too high. We'll keep our eyes on number 17
Not only did Nik Bonitto Wattenberg not practice today and Jaylen left, Cortland Sutton did not practice for a second straight day. And let me take you back to yesterday. On Tuesday, Sean Payton said Sutton was getting a vet rest day. Okay, that's understandable. He's a vet. That's someone that Sean has pointed to having a vet rest day multiple times now. So now he gets that vet rest day yesterday. But today, he was also wearing a ball cap and looked like another vet rest day, which I have never seen happen before. A guy get two vet rest days and back to back days. And Sean Payton after practice said that the only thing he said about this was that Cortland Sutton would be back at practice on Thursday. So let's hope we see him out there because it's highly unusual for players to get back to back vet rest days. Let's hope it's not a third tomorrow as well. Now let's dive into what happened at practice, the X's and O's. Bo Nix hot start freezes over. The first two plays of team period, Bo Nix could not be stopped. His first pass at Troy Franklin for a 20-yard catch as Riley Moss slipped with Troy coming out of the break.
The very next pass, Bo connected for 30 yards to Pat Bryant as the two sliced through the Broncos zone defense that they had. However, after that, it was tough sledding for the Broncos' pass game and the Broncos' run game. The next play, Malcolm Roach and Eyioma Uwazurike combined for a sack two periods later. Bo Nix threw his first true interception of camp with Marvin Mims breaking to the left sideline on a comeback. Chris Abrams Drain read the route, broke on it and picked it off. It was a fantastic read and play by Chris Abrams Drain. And honestly, a good little play by Marvin Mims because right after he picked it off, Marvin was on him, it would not have been a pick six, but still a major win for Chris Abrams Drain who Sean Payton has said has some of the best hands on the team. And after the first two passes of practice, Nix was only able to complete short passes and screens from there on out. And a big reason for that is the front seven was feasting. Denver's defense clamped down in the run game along with the pass game. Seemingly any time the Broncos starting offense tried to run the ball, Denver's front seven said, you're not doing that and shut it down. DJ Jones, Malcolm Roach, and Jonathan Cooper had monster days. Cooper ruined three straight offensive plays. He had a tackle for a loss on a dump off pass to RJ Harvey. Then on the very next play, he had a sack on Bo Nix and right after that, he had a potential sack on Sam Ehlinger. Roach had two safeties on the day according to DJ Jones and one was noticed by everyone. In attendance at Broncos camp, with the offense backed up at their own goal line, Roach hit Nix low unintentionally and had the quarterback go to the ground. As a hush took over the field, Bo bounced right back up and on to the next play. After practice, DJ Jones said, of course he did not mean to do that and they're not going to apologize for doing their job of trying to get after the quarterback. Bo bounced up right away, but it was just another example of how good this front seven was, specifically Malcolm Roach. Once again, Denver's defense won the day. That's four in a row for the defense. Friday's practice, the first practice at training camp, the offense won since then. The defense said, nah, we're going to dominate. That's exactly what they've done. They've won Saturday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, four in a row. There's a fifth practice in a row tomorrow, so don't miss that.
