Welcome, welcome, welcome to Armchair Expert. I'm Dax Shepard, I'm joined by Monica Padman.
Monica Padman (0:04)
Hi, James McAvoy.
Dax Shepard (0:06)
I'm being official, because his name's James, you know? James McAvoy is our guest today. And James feels official, instead of Jim.
Monica Padman (0:13)
I love the name James. I used to say that if I had a daughter, I would name her James.
Dax Shepard (0:18)
Oh, that would be a lovely name for, yeah. James Padman.
Monica Padman (0:24)
Do you think it sounds bad?
Dax Shepard (0:26)
Well, I love James on its own, but then maybe she's a one-name person. I just don't know how well it pairs with Padman.
Monica Padman (0:32)
James Padman.
Dax Shepard (0:34)
I mean. You call her JP?
Monica Padman (0:35)
I call her James Lily Padman, and then JLP. Oh, JPL is what I was.
Dax Shepard (0:41)
Jet Laboratory Propulsion. Okay, anyways, James McAvoy is an award-winning actor and a director. His credits include Split, Speak No Evil, Atonement, Four Axemen, of course, Last King of Scotland for My Money. God, did I love him in that. And he has made his directorial debut. It's in theaters now. It's called California Schemin. And it's based on the most impossibly true story of two Scottish kids pretending they're American to break into rap in 2003 This is a lovely interview. Please enjoy James McAvoy.

I have to say, I am so ready for fall. I want sweaters. I've been craving a true crisp morning and I actually need a jacket. I can't wait.
Dax Shepard (1:28)
I'm fully there. The second it dips below 70, I'm like, this is my season. Give me the layers. Give me the boots. Give me a reason to wear something other than a t-shirt. And honestly, that's why I love Quince, because fall is when your wardrobe actually has to show up. And everything at Quince is 50 to 80% less than similar brands. We're talking 100% Mongolian cashmere sweaters starting at $60.
Monica Padman (1:50)
$60. $60 for cashmere that you'd expect from a luxury brand is out the luxury price tag, it's amazing. Gets me every time. It really shouldn't be real, but it is because they go straight to the factories, they skip the middlemen and they just hand you the savings. The stuff isn't trendy, it's the kind of pieces you grab over and over because they work every time.
Dax Shepard (2:08)
The 100% Mongolian cashmere sweaters for me are it. When I look at Steve McQueen, this man owned a couple of sweaters he wore all the time and he looks iconic.
Monica Padman (2:17)
It's a uniform. And Quince isn't just about the clothes. They have hotel quality bedding, cookware, bath essentials, thoughtfully designed furniture. You can really go there and outfit your entire apartment or house. So if you're in need of any kind of fall refresh at home too, same quality, same attention to detail for every corner of your life.

Now really quick, I'm bummed I've healed so much. Much different today, right? What?
Monica Padman (3:39)
Oh, he had a... Okay.
Dax Shepard (3:41)
Yeah, so yesterday we had a guest, and it was insane they never asked what was wrong with my face. Because if you've ever been to the dermatologist and they have the machine, they can zap things off you. I bought one.
Monica Padman (3:50)
Oh, wow.
Dax Shepard (3:51)
And I've been going nuts getting rid of every dangerous thing.
James McAvoy (3:55)
Best is dangerous, this sounds bad.
Dax Shepard (3:57)
So yesterday it looked like I had been hit with buckshot in the head.
James McAvoy (4:00)
Is it like freckles or moles?
Dax Shepard (4:02)
Skin tags, hyperplasia, anything raised I don't like. Anything, you know, when you're just feeling your skin, you're like, what the fuck is this? And especially, I'm four years older than you, and at 51 it's like sprouting up everywhere. I'm like, what is happening to you?
