James Bond First Light: Who's it for?

YoVideogames!

May 27, 2026

I love James Bond movies. I grew up with them. I just talked about having gone through every Bond film a few weeks ago (there's 28, if you include The Rock, and you should!). When I watched the marketing for First Light, it looked like a Hitman game. A very well done, excellently made, Hitman game.

Thank you, Jrush.

**Andrew** (0:36)
This is exciting times.

**Matt** (0:39)
Yeah, we're on the dawn of not E3 season.

**Andrew** (0:44)
It's hard not to call it E3 season, you know, not to...

**Matt** (0:49)
Well, it's weird to say like, oh, it's, I mean, hey, I'm sure Jeff would love it if we called it SGF season. You know.

**Andrew** (0:56)
Yeah, that's just doesn't work.

**Matt** (0:58)
SGF doesn't roll off the tongue like E3.

**Andrew** (1:00)
It doesn't work, yeah. E3, boom.

**Matt** (1:03)
Each SGF summer games fest like, mm.

**Andrew** (1:08)
Yeah, I would love. I would love that for Jeff to have that kind of a win.

**Matt** (1:13)
I mean, he dirty. He kind of does have the win. He just doesn't have the like the two syllable off the tongue. It's three, you know, it's kind of like, you know, it's like when 2XKO, there's a lot of debating about that game, and it's the name of it, and it's still not a great name, but like it's because it's four things. 2XKO, like most fighting games maybe will go to be like MVC, MVC2, you know, they like to abbreviate it, and 2XKO is two times knockout, and it's like...

**Andrew** (1:46)
Yeah, okay. They should have just called it double knockout, I guess.

**Matt** (1:49)
They should have just called it League of Fighters and called it a day. I will die on that hill. It's weird, because we're not really tied to the League. I'm like, oh my god, you have League characters. I don't care. Whatever their weird hang up about, well, League of Legends is technically the crossover event kind of thing, and they're all part of these other universes. Arcane is not League of Legends, but these are characters that are in League of Legends, but it's not like...
Bruh.

**Andrew** (2:15)
Too complicated, too complex. But it is the summer games season. It's when I think we're a week out from the Xbox, or is it two weeks out now from the Xbox?

**Matt** (2:27)
We're about a week out from everything. Xbox is, I think it goes Sony, Jeff's thing, Xbox. There's a rumor that Nintendo is going to be like a week or two after everything.
But that's just here, say, at this point.

**Andrew** (2:46)
Yeah, so June is going to be a big month.

**Matt** (2:49)
And there's going to be a lot of smaller indie presentations, all in between all those during that whole week. So there's going to be a lot of stuff going on.

**Andrew** (3:01)
You know, Summer used to be like the blockbuster. You know, when we were kids, back in the your times, Summer was like the tent pole summer blockbuster. There was usually going to be like, well, in the 90s, there was like one or two real big movies. Then by the time we were in our 20s, it was like every week of Summer had some big ass movie and then you had, of course, you know, E3 was the Summer event. Yeah.
Now, it feels like because everything is online, everything's like a direct, everything is like a streaming event, it doesn't have that same, I don't know, pole or...

**Matt** (3:48)
Yeah, just energy.

**Andrew** (3:50)
Yeah, I don't know. But speaking of blockbuster movies, the topic of this week's episode is James Bond, First Light.
Not, it's not doing what I think the developers expected or the publisher expected, but also I think it's not doing what anyone expected in terms of like, it's like it just didn't, it's not matching anyone's expectations, which is why I think everybody keeps putting so much emphasis on how well it's reviewing.

**Matt** (4:20)
Yeah.

**Andrew** (4:21)
Oh, this is an, it's 88 on Metacritic.

**Matt** (4:23)
There's a, yeah, there's so much weirdness, right? Because the reviews went out like a day before the game did, or I'm sorry, the embargo was a day before the game did, like and the codes went out super late.

**Andrew** (4:33)
Yeah.

**Matt** (4:33)
So it was, it was a really, really usually really fast turnaround or really, you know, reviewers have a lot of time. And that's always the mark of like, they don't have faith in their product kind of thing, you know?
