It's the End of the World of Coding, And I Feel Fine

The Panel

October 3, 2026

Is DHH right in his prediction that handcrafted coding is done, is trying to "be the best" the best strategy, and can you skip the hard work and just do the easy parts of product launching and still find success?

Speakers Justin Jackson, Brian Casel, Jordan Gal

All right, welcome to The Panel, where founders talk about building a better business and a better life. I'm Justin Jackson, co-founder of Transistor.fm.

Brian Casel (0:20)

And I'm Brian Casel, founder of Builder Methods.

Jordan Gal (0:22)

And I'm Jordan Gal, founder at heyrosie.com.

Brian Casel (0:26)

Good to see you, guys.

Justin Jackson (0:27)

Everybody, just want to let everyone know, everyone listening out there, that we record this podcast live most weeks. And we got a live chat full of friends here. We got Emmett, we got Seth, we got Zach, we got Jay Davidson, we've got Keith.

Folks, if you're not in the live chat, where are you? You got to be here. Join the mailing list. Go to panelpodcast.com and I'll e-mail you when we go live.

Jordan Gal (0:53)

Yeah, join Blue Sky for the sole reason to get Justin's tweet or whatever the equivalent is.

Justin Jackson (1:03)

It's called a skeet.

Brian Casel (1:05)

And then join the rest of us over on X.

Jordan Gal (1:07)

Yes, yes.

Brian Casel (1:09)

But I will, we've got to get credit. You never know when you might get to hang out, like get our pre-show banter or maybe our post-show banter. And if you ever feel like you listen to us and you want to scream at your car audio, you could actually do it live in the chat.

Jordan Gal (1:21)

Yes. And we kind of, you know, we respond. And we got to give Justin credit. He does some screen shares.

So we do it live, but we got the video going too. I don't know about you guys. I've kind of adopted into the video version of some of these podcasts. I don't know if this has anything to do with what you do for a living, Justin, but I'm into podcasts with video.

Brian Casel (1:42)

I really am too. I actually watch like my personal YouTube feed a lot of, I don't really watch business podcasts on there, but a lot of comedy podcasts and stuff is, yeah, I like to watch it rather than listen to it.

Justin Jackson (1:56)

Yeah. I mean, and think about sports. Edmonton Oilers have this new coach, Mike Babcock, and you got to watch Babs live. He's just an old school guy. He got kicked out of the NHL for being mean to players, and now the Oilers hired him back and is just like, I want to see this guy on video.

Yeah. I'm a big video guy.

Jordan Gal (2:22)

Yeah. I listen to podcast in Spotify.

So when the video is there, that's like it's broad.

Justin Jackson (2:29)

Are you watching the video in Spotify as well?

Brian Casel (2:32)

Yeah.

Justin Jackson (2:32)

Okay.

Jordan Gal (2:34)

Because it's like a separate screen. It's not my browser. It's not YouTube open.

Brian Casel (2:40)

I still wish I could just turn off the podcast promotion in Spotify. Spotify is for music and not podcasts in my opinion.

Jordan Gal (2:48)

They are uninterested in that point of view, Brian.

Brian Casel (2:52)

I'm sure. All right.

Justin Jackson (2:54)

So we were chatting before the show. Jordan, you're going to try to wrangle us as a host this week, but there's a bunch of stuff we started talking about.

Jordan Gal (3:03)

So yeah, we want to talk about DHH coming out with a flamethrower, the flamethrower of truth.

Brian Casel (3:10)

Oh, my gosh. DHH watch over here.

Justin Jackson (3:13)

Yes.

Jordan Gal (3:13)

And we want to talk about the changing approach to choosing which product to build, why, when, the level of risk. We got Sam Altman chiming in on that point of view, which is interesting. I was in New York City this last week. Always a good time. I went for a conference I can talk about.

We got businesses we're running. We got problems we're running into. What happened to Brian?

Justin Jackson (3:39)

Brian just disappeared.

Jordan Gal (3:43)

We got trouble keeping all three of us on the same podcast.

Justin Jackson (3:47)

Dude, I'm a former Christian. You got to be careful. I think you might got raptured right during our podcast.

Jordan Gal (3:54)

Yes.

We got some chatter in the chat about DHH. This feels like an important moment because there was a lot of debate. From my point of view, one of the leaders of tech, not of tech business, not Mark Zuckerberg and Dario going to the White House, which was incredibly entertaining, by the way. I don't know if you saw that.

Brian Casel (4:25)

It was unbelievably entertaining.

Jordan Gal (4:26)

Trump was like, you tell him, you get up here, you answer it.
