Is the Auburn offensive line ready to take on the SEC?
Welcome on in, everybody. All aboard the Auburn Express Power by The War Rapport. You got Ike Jones in here. We are talking Auburn Football, Auburn Offensive Line. I know you guys have been waiting on this. So many comments that I've seen throughout our comment section in social media talk about the fact that Auburn is only going to be as good as this offensive line allows them to be. Let's talk about who is in this offensive line room and what the expectations should be for this offense with them down in the trenches. First and foremost, if you're in here, please go ahead and share the content with somebody like the video. Subscribe to the channel, all of those things. But let's talk about it. Offensive line.
The offensive line is coached by none other than Tyler Hudnick. Hudanick? Oh, I feel like I'm butchering your name, sir, and I apologize. I call him Coach Hudy because I, Hudanick is, I think is the correct way to pronounce it. I call him Coach Hudy because I screw his name up a lot. But Coach Hudy is the offensive line coach, and he is going to be the guy making sure that the right five are out there.
You know, there's a lot of other coaches that are assistants and specialty coaches that are helping with technique and all of the sort of things that are necessary to get those folks in the proper head space in terms of understanding what's going to be coming for them on a week in and week out basis versus these teams and what kind of things they're doing. How are they stunning? How are they going to be blitzing? What are going to be the calls that they line to scrimmage? All of those things. But Coach Hudy is the guy who is responsible for making sure that the best five are out there lined up and ready to play.
He's a guy that has been around the block. Let's just take a look at who he is as a coach. I haven't done this for a lot of the other coaches, but I want to make sure that we're doing it because again, this is a coaching, a portion of the roster that a lot of people are having some conversations about whether or not he's ready for this. But he was on the coaching staff at UCF and Tennessee and then at South Florida. So, he's been with Alex Skolish for a couple of different spots here. So he understands the offense completely and he understands what it's going to take to have the kind of guys necessary to run this offense. He's also again, because he was with him at Tennessee, knows what the SEC should look like in terms of physicality, just the profile of the player. I think he's a really good coach, right? And, you know, the offensive statistics aside of what was happening with USF in the last couple of seasons when they were there, that offensive line struggled at times, right? Like they just didn't have the talent to compete. And the question is, does he have a talented enough group to compete here in the SEC in the nine-game SEC schedule? So let's take a look at it. We're going to start with the middle of it all, the one that's going to be quarterbacking the offensive line, the center position for Auburn. There are four guys that are likely going to try to be competing for snaps. It's clear who's the guy in that room. As always with these, I'm going by number of snaps that they've had in their career, so I'm going to be running through it in that way, not necessarily the depth, even though it does kind of line up that way for the center position. We'll start with Cole Best, who is the senior there, 6'4, 3'15, 804 snaps last season for Cole Best there in that USF offense. He is one of the reasons why I feel good about where Auburn can be.
