In the pilot episode of REDACTED, an all new horror comedy audio drama, we meet Jacob Kane: broke actor and grieving son. After another failed audition, his best friend Eli Reyes buys him one egg. Gotta start somewhere, right?

Hey there, Brooke here. I know it's not a release day, but this is the next best thing, a new show that we think you're going to love. Redacted is a full cast monster of the week horror comedy from Athan and Jamie Petronis, inspired by late 90s and early 2000s television. Following the death of his twin, failing actor Jacob Kane assumes his late brother's life in hopes of a fresh start. Instead of finding stability, Jacob finds himself working within the Redacted unit, a covert agency tasked with containing impossible creatures and phenomena. Each week, they'll face off against a different threat or aberration. We already know you love good horror, and we know you're suckers for fantastic sound design and 90s nostalgia. So give Redacted a shot and add another incredible spooky show to your roster. Here's part one of the pilot now.
Are you ready?
Sit back, turn down the lights, and now on with the show.
Jamie Petronis (1:15)
Hey, hey, mom. Yeah, yeah, I know it's late. I'm sorry. I just wanted to call you before the police do. There's been an accident. No, no, I'm fine. A couple of scratches, but mom, are you sitting down? Yeah, I think it would be best if you did.
He, he was thrown from the car. He must not have had his belt on.
Who, who was driving? Well, I, I was, but it's not my fault. It, mom, it's raining and the car just started sliding. And I, no, no, mom, please, mom, please, please don't go, mom, please.
Dan Morris (2:16)
Thank you, Jacob.
That was great. But did you prepare any of the material we sent you?
Jamie Petronis (2:24)
So I looked it over. I just don't think that it really resonated with the character. None of the dialogue really showed the gravitas that I think he deserves.
Dan Morris (2:32)
Jacob, Jacob, we appreciate the care put into your craft, but production really has a singular vision for this character.
Jamie Petronis (2:40)
Look, I get that there's a vision and all, but the lines that were sent to me were just so pedestrian.
Dan Morris (2:47)
You are aware that the writer is sitting at this table, correct? Uh, hey.
Jamie Petronis (2:55)
I am sorry. Look, I didn't mean anything by it.
All writers have to start somewhere, right?
Dan Morris (3:01)
Jacob, we can't use alternate dialogue. The script is locked. We need to hear the lines as written.
If you could, please, just start again with the provided material whenever you're ready.
Athan (4:05)
Okay, so you didn't do the audition, then?
Jamie Petronis (4:07)
No, I did do it. It just wasn't what they wanted. They wanted some brainless nobody to recite their amateur script exactly as written.
Athan (4:16)
Okay, yeah, you mean like, I don't know, an actor, then?
Jamie Petronis (4:18)
Look, if they wanted an actor, I would have heard back by now.
Athan (4:20)
You do realize how pretentious you sound when you get like this, right? Like, you have to hear that, right?
Jamie Petronis (4:26)
I wouldn't call it pretentious, per se. I prefer to look at it as having artistic integrity.
Athan (4:31)
Okay, well, yeah, all of that, whatever that is, it doesn't pay the bills, Jacob. And also, I don't think it's even possible to say, per se, without being pretentious, so.
Jamie Petronis (4:42)
Look, I'm not going to waste my time reciting derivative bullshit for a part as an unnamed victim on some random crime show.
Athan (4:49)
But that character could have come back in future episodes, and it would lead to more work.
Jamie Petronis (4:53)
No, I read the script. That character is dead before the theme song plays.
Athan (4:57)
Okay, fine. Then, I don't know, have you given any thought to picking up some, like, side work or something, you know, to subsidize your artistic integrity, you know?
Jamie Petronis (5:06)
Like a job?
Athan (5:07)
Yeah, like a job.
Jamie Petronis (5:08)
I don't know, man.
Athan (5:09)
Look, I know it's rough, but you can have a day job and still make time for acting. I mean, look, my job never stopped me from doing music. I'm able to do both.
Jamie Petronis (5:19)
Yeah, about that, what is it that you even do?
Athan (5:24)
Jacob, you know this, I'm in supply chain management.
Jamie Petronis (5:27)
Right, yeah, I know we talked about it, but like, what does that mean?
Athan (5:31)
Is it not obvious? Jacob, I manage supply chains.
Jamie Petronis (5:35)
This whole time, I thought you supplied chains to management.
Brooke Jennett (5:41)
What?
Jamie Petronis (5:41)
I don't know, like, bike shops, stuff, places that need chains.
