Pacome Dadiet needs to step up.
Pacome Dadiet is entering a make or break season. If he can't prove to the Knicks front office that he's improving in the right ways, his time with the team could be over.
Shout out to Steph Bondi with the New York Post for giving us this following information. According to him, entering what feels like a make or break season for his Knicks career, Pacome Dadiet understands the assignment. Become more efficient at the 3-point line and play harder. People around the league believe Dadiet's preseason chance last year mostly was about showcasing him for a trade. As one NBA general manager jokingly texted last year during Las Vegas Summer League, I wouldn't trade Pacome Dadiet for a croissant. Bondi continues here by stating, People inside the Knicks are predicting a breakout for Dadiet, who nonetheless struggled in the opening two games of this year's Summer League, with 16.5 points per game on 36% shooting and only 15.4% shooting from beyond the arc. It's all significant now for Dadiet, whose contract includes a team option for next season, with an October 31st deadline. If the Knicks don't pick up that $5.3 million option, and it would be impossible to justify picking that up right now, Dadiet will become a trade candidate and a free agent next summer. Some of you guys have already asked me in the comments, would the New York Knicks at this point in time look to wave Dadiet? It doesn't look like that's on the table, at least for right now.

None of this information that we just reviewed means that the Knicks are ready to just release him. More likely, his salary becomes a trade piece, something New York could use to help bring back a bigger body up front.
If Dadiet is indeed a trade piece, who are the Knicks looking to trade him for?
Thankfully, we have some more information on that too.
According to NBA Insider Jake Fisher, New York first explored trades for the Pelican Center Yves Missy and Hornets big man Musa Diabate before pivoting to Musa Sissy in restricted free agency. Unfortunately for New York, none of those pursuits has yielded a new addition.
So, we know The Knicks explored two different trades. One trade for Musa Diabate and the other trade for Yves Missy. And while there are no official reports confirming this, I can almost guarantee you that part of the trade packages for both players had to include Pacome Dadiet and likely second round picks. But unfortunately, that trade package wasn't enough for either one of these teams to want to trade a player like either Diabate or Yves Missy. That's because Pacome Dadiet's trade value, at least at this point in time, is on the ground. And no team wants to give up significant assets if the other side is only you getting Dadiet and second round picks. Right now, that's not worth enough. New York would have to include even more players. Maybe different sets of picks in order to pull off one of those trades. And Leon Rose, he doesn't want to make that move right now. He doesn't want to have to give up more assets in order to get a player like Missy or Diabate. Because he doesn't believe that those players are worth a higher package. So I'm not surprised that multiple trades have fallen through the cracks at this point. Because the Knicks simply are the team you don't want to help. No matter if it's via trade, free agency, it really doesn't matter at this point. New York is not going to get any favors from any other team around the league. They're the reigning defending champions. Not only does that put a target on the Knicks back, but every team that faces them next season, they're going to step up and give New York their best effort. Because that's what you want to do against the defending champions. But even more than that, it means that any move the Knicks want to make, no matter what that move is, if another team can ruin it, block it, or make it so that it doesn't happen, they're going to do that. Simply because they do not like the Knicks, they don't want the reigning defending NBA champions to get better, and for them, helping New York miss out on a target is just as good as New York getting rejected and not being able to land that player anyways. So that's why New York is in the situation that they're in right now. They're hoping that players on this team, maybe players that they have no problem trading away, increase their trade value. Because if that happens, maybe they'll be able to make the trades they want to make without giving up too many assets. That's what Leon Rose is trying to do right now.
