Robinson addresses future in New York. We've heard all the reports from all the NBA insiders, but we haven't heard it from the man himself, Mitchell Robinson. Until now, he recently addressed his future with The Knicks and Free Agency. This is what he had to say.
Shout out to New York Basketball on the AppX for giving us this following information. According to WGNO, who interviewed Mitchell Robinson, they asked him the following question, Free Agency, do you hope to be back with The Knicks? Maybe build a dynasty in New York. And this was Robinson's response. We can see what happens. It would be great. Try to do it. To run it back again. Try to go back to back. Defending champs. So well, that's very a possibility.
If you were wondering how Mitchell Robinson felt about Free Agency, he's actually nervous.
According to Robinson, I'm getting kind of nervous, you know? Free Agency starts, what? July 1st? I don't know what's gonna happen. It's just like, you know, just won a championship this year. Was in the Eastern Conference finals last year. I'm getting nervous. And obviously, my first time being unrestricted. We'll see how it goes.
So, on one hand, Mitchell Robinson sounds like he wants to run it back with The Knicks. However, he's nervous, but he also said he wants to explore his options.
Shout out to Yahoo Sports for giving us this following information. Later in the day, Mitchell Robinson reiterated that he plans to explore his options. According to Robinson, he said the following, I'm just going to see what's out there, and we'll see what happens. Those comments arrived before Hoops Hype's Insider, Michael Scato, reported Robinson is expected to command offers worth the full, non-taxpayer mid-level exception, approximately $15 million annually, or possibly more when Free Agency opens. And if you were wondering what teams in Free Agency could possibly offer Mitchell Robinson at least $15 million, we have those updates too.
Shout out to NBA Insiders Mark Stein and Jake Fisher via the Stein Line for giving us this following information. According to them, the Lakers are prepared to offer their mid-level exception to Mitchell Robinson. And the Knicks' in-city rivals, the Brooklyn Nets, also have legitimate interest in bringing in Mitchell Robinson. We should also mention, two other teams on this list are the Sacramento Kings and the Boston Celtics.
And after New York just signed Landry Shamett to a new four-year, $24 million deal, they have even less money to offer Mitchell Robinson. And according to Ian Begley, it looks like the Knicks will not be able to retain Robinson unless they make a trade. Take a look at this update. According to SNY's Ian Begley, he said the following after Shamett was signed about Robinson. If the Knicks still want to remain below that 2nd apron team salary level, they are going to have a very hard time resigning Mitchell Robinson. Nearly impossible after this Shamett signing. As we've been saying, they would have to pick one or the other if they were going to stay under the 2nd apron. And so now, it appears as if Mitchell Robinson has played his last game as a Knick. If they decide to exceed that 2nd apron, it changes what they can offer Mitchell Robinson to bring him back to New York. But no indication as of yet that Dolan and The Knicks are going to exceed that 2nd apron. The Knicks will need to shed salary via trade if they want to stay under the 2nd apron and make a competitive offer to Mitchell Robinson. Clearly, Mitchell Robinson has some desire to stay with The Knicks. He wants to remain in New York. However, we can't deny that he said he is going to look at all possibilities before he makes a decision. That means he will explore his options. It also means New York cannot give him a less contract than what he was making in his previous deal. Because if they do that, he is not returning to the Knicks.
