We have a major update on the Knicks free agency plans. Two centers that the Knicks were looking at are now officially off the board. Now, New York has even more limited options at the center position. We're gonna break down all of these latest reports today.

Major free agency update. The Knicks were targeting Jonas Valanciunas in free agency. They wanted to add him to the team. But unfortunately, now that option is gone.
Shoutout to basketnews.com for giving us this following information. Jonas Valanciunas leaves the NBA after 14 seasons, officially signing a two-year deal with EuroLeague Champions of Lithuania. Ian Bagley, an NBA insider for the New York Knicks, also confirms this. He states the following, You can presumably take Jonas Valanciunas' name off the list of potential Ariel Huckporty replacements for The Knicks.
And the player I spoke about earlier today that I dropped the video on, Micah Potter, he's also off the list too. Take a look at this update.
Shout out to trailblazers.net for giving us this following information. According to them, the Portland Trailblazers claimed former Indiana Pacers big man, Micah Potter off of waivers. They have one final spot remaining on their 15-man roster and will likely use it to add a two-way forward. But as of right now, two names that were on the list for available centers in free agency just got removed, limiting the options for New York in free agency.
So I know what you're thinking. If those two options are off the table, who's left? Who else can the Knicks target in free agency to add more center depth? I have that information for you guys.
New York is still searching for one more center to strengthen the front court. That is where Nick Richards becomes a name to watch. Richards spent the 2025-2026 season with the Phoenix Suns and Chicago Bulls. He averaged 5.8 points, 5.1 rebounds, 0.3 assists while shooting 51.2% from the field. Richards would give the Knicks another traditional big man behind Andre Drummond.
According to NBA Insider Brett Siegel, he gives us this following information. It's a very thin center market. The one name that we keep hearing after the Knicks signed Andre Drummond is Nick Richards on a minimum contract. He's a CAA client. The Knicks have a lot of ties to CAA. And it would just make sense for them to bring in Nick Richards there.
But that's not the only option they have available. Former Nick Jeremy Sohan, he's available right now in free agency too.
According to Sports Illustrated, Jeremy Sohan, 23, is still an unrestricted free agent after playing a limited role in New York's 2026 title run. The former number 9 overall pick remains listed as a free agent on the Knicks official roster page. As the league moves deeper into July.
A reunion with New York cannot be ruled out. The Knicks could still view him as an inexpensive end-of-the-roster defender who knows the system and the locker room. It is very slim pickings in free agency right now. And the pickings got even more slim after Jonas Valanciunas and Micah Potter went off the board. That's why New York has been trying to make a trade. They tried to trade for Yves Missy. Now he's off the table because New Orleans flat out rejected the Knicks. They have also tried to trade for Musa Diabate, the center with the Hornets. But they have been unable to make a deal work there too. Right now, the only assets they have available that they're looking to trade is multiple second-round picks and Pecum D'Adieu. They could potentially add Deuce McBride to that trade package too. But even if they did, would they be able to pull off a trade for Musa Diabate, or another center that's young and up-and-coming in the NBA right now? It's hard to really say that, because with Deuce McBride, we have no idea where his trade value is. We also know he's in a contract year, and with the New York Knicks, there is one thing they do more than any other team. They will either re-sign you, or they're going to trade you. That's why they're being smart on the players they want to bring in, the players they want to pay, and unfortunately, the players that will not be here long term. There's a few names on that list, but Miles McBride, he's probably at the top of it. Right now, New York is doing everything in their power to make a move to add more center-depth to this team. If it's not gonna happen in free agency, then the only other way for it to happen is via trade. Leon Rose has a big decision in front of him, and now, he has even more limited options to choose from.
