Welcome to Spike's Car Radio. Best Laid Plants, Get Ruined. Once again, by LA Weather, we were going to be in Baldwin Hills. We'd asked for questions. We were excited to go to Zuckerman's to have bagels, to have coffee. I'm sure Jonny was going to smoke a cigar. We'd shut it down. But it's raining, it's drizzling. And you know how we LA people are.

We're fragile.

Paul Zuckerman (0:28)

We had quite a bit of rain, didn't we?

Spike Feresten (0:29)

We did. We got a ton of rain. Or as they say, a catastrophic weather event here in Los Angeles. It rained. Yes.

Paul Zuckerman (0:39)

But it kept raining. It was supposed to stop in 3S today, and it was going this morning still.

Spike Feresten (0:44)

It rained through the hour. I had tennis scheduled the whole day. And so we all, what you do is you, it wasn't that bad. You're watching the US Open, which by the way, I get a complaint about ESPN. And this is not even tennis specific. This is ESPN specific to whatever sport you're watching on ESPN if you have the app that you're paying for to watch all the different football games, baseball games, tennis, US Open. When they go to commercial, it's really spooky. It says commercial break here. You can see it right here. You'll see this right here. If you guys, if you want to listen, listen to this sound. It's like Darth Vader is at his school locker walking around.

This is just, this is, and then it goes back to the tennis bat. This is just the beginning of this. There's the sound of, of footsteps in there sometimes, a locker and then heavy breathing. And at first you're like, okay, that was weird. They must just have a satellite feed shift or something. But then, then it's like, now it's every five minutes. So it's really annoying. I started Googling it. There's a whole Reddit about it. And I started, I went right back to YouTube TV and I started watching the one with commercials. I can't, I can't take the noise.

Paul Zuckerman (2:00)

So when you, when you're paying for this, you don't get the commercials, but you get the break.

Spike Feresten (2:04)

You get the break, but instead of this being quiet, it makes those weird Darth Vader noises. So ESPN addressed this and said, we don't want people to think that, it's frozen. Yeah, it's frozen and or the programming has stopped.

Okay, so I agree with you there. So we put a bunch of random, weird sound effects in there that are-

Paul Zuckerman (2:27)

How about we'll be right back? What's wrong with we'll be right back?

Spike Feresten (2:30)

But a little music.

That's exactly right. I don't want to spend too much time on that, but God damn it. What were we talking about before this?

Jonny Lieberman (2:38)

You were gonna play tennis, but you got rained on.

Spike Feresten (2:40)

That's right. And you're sitting watching the US Open and I'm just watching all of the matches get, I mean, not on TV in life. You just, this cell of storms. You know, we had all these hurricanes off the coast that kept coming up very close to us, swirling, and then they went out. This is, I guess, the result of that.

A little extra rain, but we thought we were getting-

Jonny Lieberman (3:02)

Strap in.

Spike Feresten (3:03)

Yeah, we thought we were getting a bunch of hurricanes.

Jonny Lieberman (3:05)

We got Super El Nino this fall.

Spike Feresten (3:09)

You guys know what Labor Day is about? Do you even remember what Labor Day is about?

Paul Zuckerman (3:12)

Of course, no.

Spike Feresten (3:14)

In the late 19th century, during the Industrial Revolution, what was going on, Zuckerman?

Paul Zuckerman (3:18)

Well, there was a lot of protest. There was a lot of societal change.

Spike Feresten (3:22)

There was also specifically 12-hour workdays.

Jonny Lieberman (3:26)

Seven days a week.

Spike Feresten (3:27)

There weren't good wages. There weren't safe conditions.

And now there's Labor Day. They fixed all of it, and life is perfect for us right now. The working class is happy. They're all happy.

Paul Zuckerman (3:39)

Everyone's happy. All those factory workers.

Spike Feresten (3:41)

All those folks are happy.

Paul Zuckerman (3:42)

All those factory jobs came back, and now they can thank for the- And now they've worked for billionaires. Yes.

Jonny Lieberman (3:47)

It's really cool.

Spike Feresten (3:48)

You gotta protect your billionaires.

Jonny Lieberman (3:49)

You gotta, really.

Paul Zuckerman (3:50)

Because you're gonna be one one day. You, you're just a billionaire currently in distress. A little financial distress, but the money's gonna come in.
