Welcome to the Fantasy Football Happy Hour. I am not Matthew Berry. My name is actually Peter Overzet. I have been writing Matthew Berry's newsletter, the Fantasy Life Newsletter, for over five years now, so I guess I can be a decent proxy. But if you are actually looking for a Matthew to be here, we are not leaving you hanging because I have Matthew Freedman from Fantasy Life. We are going to be your host today. Matthew, welcome to Matthew Berry's Happy Hour.

Matthew Freedman (0:37)

Thank you. It's great to be here. Around the company, I'm sort of known as the wet blanket. I definitely bring the hate.

So we don't have love hate, but at least we have the more important part of it. We have the dark side.

Peter Overzet (0:50)

We do. And I'm sure the chat is gonna be absolutely thrilled with us today. No Matthew Berry and a man who just claimed to be a wet blanket. I know when you previously were on this show, you had some takes that the commenters absolutely hated. Although is there one you want to circle back to? I know you had some strong words about Bo Nix when you came on.

Matthew Freedman (1:08)

Yeah, I will just say one of my fates for the season was Bo Nix. I feel like in the chat, shout out the chat, great action in there. The chat, they weren't really receptive to it. And I will say, you know what? For at least one week, the Bo Nix hatred seemed to pay off.

And I'm ranking him as the QB 18 for this week. So I'm sticking with it with the Bo Nix hatred. We'll see how it goes. But you know, Davis Webb maybe left something to be desired as a play caller on Monday night football. We'll just we'll see how this unwinds.

Peter Overzet (1:41)

And we are going to talk more Bo Nix later in the show. When we get to the start sets, we're going to decide if we're going to keep it open or close it out with Bo Nix against the Jags. But we do have a little other housekeeping we need to do today because apparently, Matthew, Mr. Berry left us a message for this show. We are in a league with him in an industry league called the Flex Basketball Leagues hosted by Jake Sealy. Both of us drafted those in August. I don't know what Matthew is about to say to us, but I've been told there's something. Let's see what he says.

Wow. Wow. Now, Freedman, do you have any words for Matthew now that we have week one in the books of the 2026 contest? Because I pulled up the results and there's a Matthew sitting in first place, but it's not the one with the last name Berry.

Matthew Freedman (3:05)

There is.

What has two thumbs and likes beating Matthew Berry in week one of Fantasy Best Ball? This guy. All right. 200 points. Pete, I will say you were number four, Matthew Berry number five.

He can talk trash if he wants on his show. I mean, he's not here today to talk trash to us. We're the ones who showed up. Where are you, Matthew Berry? But he can talk trash to us whenever he wants. But look, just look at the scoreboard. After week one, we are in the lead.

Peter Overzet (3:35)

I got to say, this roster that Matthew Freedman has in this league is insane. This is every week one smash. You can imagine Josh Allen, Chuba Hubbard, Kenneth Walker, Justin Jefferson, Parker Washington and Trey McBride. So congratulations, Mr. Freedman, for one week, everything came together for you.

Matthew Freedman (3:52)

Yeah, it's the most important week of the season.

Peter Overzet (3:55)

And I anticipate this league will not be discussed on here the rest of the season unless Matthew is in first place, in which case I'm sure he will bring it up again. But that is your best ball update with a few industry thought leaders. Mr. Freedman, though, we have... I can't like... I keep wanting to call you Matthew. And I think that's going to trigger some people who tune in in the chat. And they're like, that's not Matthew. So today you're just Mr. Freedman. Are you OK with that?

Matthew Freedman (4:19)

Look, you can just drop the Mr. Freedman is fine.

Peter Overzet (4:22)

All right, I'm going to go with Freedman. You're right. You don't deserve the Mr. Let's talk some news here. We have a lot of injury-related stuff that is going to dictate some of our decisions for week two in Fantasy. The first one I want to talk about here is Jeremiyah Love. So this was really encouraging coming off of the ankle injury. There was a lot of questions. Is he even going to play week one? Not only does he play, but he gets a touchdown. They're giving him a goal line carry. They say he wasn't on a snap count in week one. I'm curious what you saw in the usage from him and how you feel about him going against the tough Seattle defense in week two.
