Welcome to The Niche Is You. My name is Matt Gottesman, at Matt Gottesman on Instagram, and this is my daily podcast where I create short, quick hitting episodes to help you uncomplicate life, creativity, and the pursuit of your highest self. There's only main character energy here. Now let's get into it.
Welcome to episode 888 In a world that's constantly pulling at your attention, the most spiritual thing you can do is focus. In a world that's constantly pulling at you in every way you could imagine, the most spiritual thing you can do is focus. I relaunched a post this morning, although by the time you hear this podcast, it will be a week ago. And I hadn't posted this for maybe about nine months, and it's still one of my favorites. And so I'm going to read it to you. We're going to talk about it. And then I've got several different bullet points for if you were in a season, where you feel scattered or there's just too much going on, and we know that there's a lot going on in the macro of the world. We get that. We know that. How do we stay rooted? How do we stay grounded? How do we stay focused on what matters? How do we spend more time?
Well, first of all, how do we know where to spend all of our time and not leak energy? And then how do we spend more time doing what we really need to do? And again, this kind of goes along to the theme of this week with the advice first of, you know, craft and calling, and then of course, your intuition and self trust. You see how this is all a relationship with yourself, right? So here's the post that I had put up. It said, the enemy of your gift is distraction. When you give your attention to everything, you give your genius to nothing.
This season isn't about doing more. It's about devoting more to what God already asked you to steward.
Focus is a form of spiritual warfare. It's how you protect this summit you were given. Now, before I go on the rest of the posts, this season isn't about doing more. It's about devoting more. Often at times, we need to prune. We need to look at everything going on and saying, okay, if there's too much, let me get down to the essentials. And when I was in the studio with Nick yesterday, we discussed the book Essentialism by Greg McKeown. The backup book after that that he wrote is Effortless. And again, I say this all the time, and we did some videos on this about this idea of 90% of the things that occupy us are not deserving of our time. Find the 10% that are and really double down on it and triple down and quadruple down on it, right?
It's very natural for many things to all of a sudden come into your world, or if you're experimenting a lot with your work and trying to see where to go with it, and you're trying different things and you're growing in general, things can just come into your life and almost feel overwhelming in any aspect of your life. And so we have to be very conscious of in those moments, like knowing that that's happening, and prune, right? Just prune, start clipping out any of the things that, you know what? This isn't a priority right now. You know what? I don't need to do this stuff right now. You know what? This is what really needs me to focus right now. It's natural in the game to take a moment, a pause, and say, what's going on, right? All right, so then the rest of the post said, in a world that's constantly pulling at your attention, the most spiritual thing you can do is focus, right? The most spiritual thing you can do is focus. Less noise, more presence, less proving, more protecting. The work is already in you. Honor it like it matters.
May you play this next season as not one that you have to prove yourself.
Sometimes that's where the overwhelm comes from, right? But instead, protect what's already been placed within you, the vision, the gifts, the assignment. I want you to know, you're not alone in this. All the time, I literally just the other day, jotted everything down going on because there's been a lot of growth, a lot of expansion, a lot of different projects and things being done. And I'm like, okay, this is a lot. This is a lot. I need to rein it in immediately. And I need to look at what is the promise from God? What do I need to really make sure to stay on point with and in focus with? And what will just have to wait?
