So I've been doing this Wife School Series, and it was on purpose. I wanted to learn from the greats because I knew that I was going to be getting married on August 29th. I got married to my husband, Vance Voetberg.
And I am so excited to introduce you formally and in depth and go through everything about our whole story on the show today. So I thought the best way to wrap up wife school would be to end with me announcing that now I'm a wife. And it doesn't mean that the learning is over, obviously, and how the learning really is beginning.
Vance Voetberg (1:09)
I'm actually, I'm the new professor, so buckle up, guys.
SPEAKER_3 (1:14)
So I have a lot to learn.
Alex Clark (1:15)
So now, you know, I'm really the student for real and have to, you know, learn all of this in real time, in real life as you do in marriage. So today's super special because we're going to dive into everything from how we met, which we did cover a little bit in my EV Magazine article, as well as your sub stack, Running on Butter. When we got engaged, you wrote a beautiful blog about our love story. But if you hadn't read that, we'll go through that. Everything about his crazy home school, grown up in a family of 10 kids life, the ultimate ma-ha childhood before ma-ha was a thing. And then we'll also talk about the wedding. Obviously all of the details, nothing will be spared. The honeymoon.
Maybe some of those details will be spared.
I feel nervous, but I also feel super excited because we've really kept our relationship as private as possible. Through dating, we didn't disclose or talk about anything. Dating, we kept all of that pretty private. And then we got engaged, we did announce the engagement, but even between the engagement and now, I've not had you on the show, we haven't done anything, we knew that we wanted to wait until we were officially married to have you on.
Vance Voetberg (2:27)
Yeah.
Alex Clark (2:28)
And so there's so much ground to cover because I know you guys are dying to know more about Vance, and I'm so excited for you to know more about Vance because he is just the most multi-dimensional, talented, funny, artistic, Stop, stop, stop, stop. Athletic, handsome, both handsome, man that I've ever known, and godly, just all the things. There's so many things I could say. It's going to be super fun, and I didn't prep anything. I just wanted to just talk, and so I'm just asking about you. Without further ado, the greatest honor of my life. Whoa. Please welcome.
My husband, Vance Voetberg, to Culture Apothecary.
Vance Voetberg (3:15)
Alex Voetberg, it's a privilege to be here. Big fan of the show, a long time listener, and so it's surreal. Your team is so professional. Everybody here is top notch, and just, yeah, I'm pleasantly, not surprised, but I should expect such excellence from you guys.
Alex Clark (3:30)
So something I've kind of shared briefly with the audience, they know that you were homeschooled, one of 10 kids. You grew up in the Pacific Northwest. Where specifically in the Pacific Northwest did you grow up?
Vance Voetberg (3:41)
It's a small town called Centralia. It's a small little town, not much to it. It's not very cute or quaint, and it's not very big. It's just sort of like a pass-through town. But what made the town really cool, matter of a fact, was one of the cool things that my parents did was my dad back 20 years ago, because we were homeschooled, he wanted to give us some opportunities to socialize with the community and to go out and to honestly minister to the community. And like I said, the town is actually not very...
It definitely needs Jesus. The town is pretty low income, and I think the Northwest is particularly a dark area.
Alex Clark (4:23)
Like literally, like depression, because it's always raining, a lot of drugs, liberalism.
Vance Voetberg (4:29)
Anyways, cutting to the chase. Sorry.
My dad built a coffee shop, it's called Fiddler's Coffee, and all of us kids worked at Fiddler's Coffee, and it was such an awesome opportunity. So to this day, they still own Fiddler's Coffee, and that's such a bright hub in Centralia, amidst the, you know, darkness.
Alex Clark (4:49)
So everybody started working there around what age?
Vance Voetberg (4:51)
Gosh, I started taking money when I was like six or seven. I would beg my older siblings, I'm like, please, can I go into work with you guys? Cause I just loved meeting all the people from town and making drinks, and it was such a fun environment to work in.
