And let's grab our Bibles. We're going to be in the Book of Isaiah tonight, the Book of Isaiah, Chapter number 55 All right, and so we actually just finished our series through the Book of Esther on Wednesday night. So if you weren't able to hear all the messages, they are on the website there. They also are on the YouTube channel recorded there. But just praying about where the Lord would have us go next. We have some ideas, but it's an opportunity to be able to stop and hit some different passages, maybe that we wouldn't get to in a regular series in a while. And so that's important as well. And so this is one of those passages that has been just a blessing in my life. I heard a preacher preach it a number of years ago when I was just a teenager, has stuck with me ever since. If you're in our daily Bible reading, Bible reading calendar, we just came through this section, was just thinking about what to preach, and the Lord just put this on my heart. So Isaiah chapter 55, and we'll read the whole chapter this evening. Isaiah chapter 55, verse number one, the prophet speaking for the Lord calls to the people of Israel. And he says, oh, okay, we don't use that word much anymore. It's an old English, come on, okay. Interjection basically, hey, let me get your attention, but it's also an invitation. Hey, come this way. That's how we would say today. But, ho, every one that thirsteth, come to the waters. And he that hath no money, come ye, buy and eat. Yea, come and buy wine and milk without money and without price. Wherefore, do ye spend money for that which is not bread, and your labor for that which satisfieth not? Harken diligently unto me, and eat ye that which is good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness. Incline your ear and come unto me. Here, and your soul shall live, and I will make an everlasting covenant with you, even the sure mercies of David. Behold, I have given him, for a witness to the people, a leader and commander to the people. Behold, thou shalt call a nation that thou knowest not, and nations that knew not thee shall run unto thee because of the Lord thy God, and for the Holy One of Israel, for he hath glorified thee. Seek ye the Lord while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near. Let the wicked forsake his way, the unrighteous man his thoughts. Let him return unto the Lord, and he will have mercy upon him, and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon. Isaiah chapter 55, verse number 8 These are some of the more famous verses really in the book of Isaiah, where God says this to his people, for my thoughts are not your thoughts. Neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts. For as the rain cometh down and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth the bud, that it may give seed to the sower and bread to the eater.
So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth. It shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish the thing which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereunto I send it, for ye shall go out with joy, and be led forth with peace. The mountains and hills shall break forth before you into singing, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands. Instead of the thorns shall come up the fir tree, instead of the briar shall come up the myrtle tree, and it shall be to the Lord for a name, for an everlasting sign, that shall not be cut off. And so here in Isaiah 55, God is speaking to his people. The last two verses would refer more to the millennial kingdom that is yet to come. There is a prophetic nature in this as well. But God is speaking to his people and he's saying, come, you that thirsty, you that are need. And he's speaking spiritually here, come to me. There is what satisfies only with me. For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways, my ways. God is saying, I don't think like you. And so here's our title tonight. I'm glad God thinks like God. I'm glad that God thinks like God and God doesn't think like us. All right, so let's pray and ask the Lord's help. And I believe there's some great encouragement and help from the Word of God here tonight. Dear Heavenly Father, Lord, we do come before you tonight. We're thankful for your Word. Lord, I'm thankful for who you are. Lord, that you are eternal, you are everlasting, and you are good. Lord, that you, Lord, we cannot even begin to grasp your greatness, but Lord, I pray that you would help us to get a little taste of it, to understand, Lord. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
