Hello, and welcome to Smosh Reads Reddit Stories. I'm Shayne, and today's theme is overreacting.
Stories where people are maybe overreacting, maybe they're not. And I'm joined by two people who I can barely get a reaction out of ever, Trevor and Jared. Yeah, I never overreact. I'm probably underreact. I'm really nonchalant these days.
Jared Goldstein (0:21)
Okay. Yeah, I'm really chill, especially in traffic.
I don't start doing voices.
Shayne Topp (0:28)
Yeah, you don't yell. Do you think you guys are overreactors?
Jared Goldstein (0:33)
Yeah.
Shayne Topp (0:33)
Yeah. We are performers and you're like performers and chef.
Jared Goldstein (0:39)
Yeah.
Shayne Topp (0:39)
I feel like that's-
Jared Goldstein (0:40)
Oh my God, chefs, that seems like your whole thing.
Shayne Topp (0:43)
I don't know. I think probably, yeah. I mean, when we're doing videos, I'm probably overreacting to stuff more often than not. But I think in my normal everyday life, I feel like I'm pretty level-headed and chill. Yeah. There are things though that will get me, honestly, in traffic, I'll get cut off by someone and it's like maybe not even that bad. I don't know. I think that you should be put away for life.
Jared Goldstein (1:05)
I think you should be put away for life.
Shayne Topp (1:07)
You should die, for sure. I do think I underreact a lot in my regular life.
Jared Goldstein (1:11)
Oh, interesting.
Shayne Topp (1:12)
I do. I think I'm someone who I can let people walk all over me sometimes.
Jared Goldstein (1:18)
Okay.
Shayne Topp (1:18)
I think I've allowed that in the past.
Jared Goldstein (1:20)
Good to know.
Shayne Topp (1:21)
Because it's like half of Lisa Resistance sometimes. So then luckily, with friends and my wife and even family, they'll be like, you should react more to that.
Jared Goldstein (1:31)
I'm like, okay. All right.
Shayne Topp (1:34)
I'll react a little bit.
Jared Goldstein (1:35)
Totally.
Shayne Topp (1:35)
But we're going to be reading mostly stories from the subreddit Am I Overreacting? And I feel like most of the stories, they're not overreacting. In fact, a lot of times, I think they're very much underreacting, depending though. So we'll see.
Let's dive in.
Jared Goldstein (1:52)
I'm ready. Okay.
Shayne Topp (1:53)
First story comes from Am I Overreacting? And it was posted only two days ago as of reading this.
My friend just got engaged, but I found a Reddit post from his fiance trashing the ring and insulting him. Do I tell him or am I overreacting?
For context, most of us have had concerns about his fiance for a while. We don't feel like she has his best interests at heart and the relationship has seemed unhealthy from the outside. Our friend also seems like he's been struggling mentally and some of us feel like she has become very controlling, including around things like what he eats and other day-to-day choices, even though she frames it as being for his health. A few days ago, he proposed and gave her a really beautiful, very distinctive engagement ring. She publicly posted excited engagement content on social media so everything looked great on the surface. Then, by random chance, our friend came across a post on Reddit in an engagement ring community. They recognized the ring immediately because it's extremely unique and there were other identifying details that matched as well. She does very unique hyper-detailed nail art.
We couldn't believe she would post the picture with her nails in the photo at all, given how unique they are. In the post, she was criticizing the ring pretty harshly and saying some really disrespectful things about her fiance. She was mocking his taste, calling him incompetent and making comments that made it sound like her issue might not actually be the ring at all, but the relationship itself. A lot of replies were basically saying the same thing, that her reaction sounded deeper than just disappointment over jewelry, and more like resentment toward the person she's marrying. Now, we feel stuck. On one hand, if one of us were about to marry someone who is speaking about us that way, anonymously online, we'd want to know. On the other hand, we also worry about interfering in something that may not be our place, especially since bringing it up could seriously damage the friendship or create a huge blow-up. So the dilemma is, do we tell our friend what we found, or would that be overreacting? Do we stay out of it and let him figure it out on his own?
Jared Goldstein (4:03)
Okay. Okay. I feel so strong. I feel so strong.
Shayne Topp (4:07)
Yeah.
