So I guess, and you've been asked like everything, why are you doing that? Why? Why? I think it's wonderful. I love watching you. I find you incredibly smart, entertaining and on the right side of what you're doing now. I mean, what I've taken away is that you want to speak out for those people that need help in going through the shit that you've gone through as far as addiction and just hearing another voice. I know somebody who deals with mental health, that people come up to me all the time. I'm kind of just trying to survive myself. And when we talk about it, people come over and they say, oh, it seems so helpful to know I'm not alone and there's other people in this. There it is, yeah.

Yeah, I mean, I have to admit that that's what it has evolved into. And that's the reason to keep doing it. So, but when I first decided to come out, I just had been quiet for so long, I had so much to say, you know? I had, for a lot of good reasons, you know, at the very beginning, you know, before my dad got elected, there was a campaign, it wasn't my campaign, it wasn't my, you know, I didn't feel like it was right for me to be any more of a distraction than I already was. So I kind of stepped into the background. I was newly, you know, clean and sober. So I was healing myself.

And then when he became president, you know, people forget, is that Trump launched the investigation into me.

Right before he walked out the door, he tasked a Republican US attorney to start an investigation into me in December, in that interim period, you know, December 12th of 2020

Was it the tax stuff or the?

Hunter Biden (2:49)

Yeah. So they launched it as it related to the tax stuff. And which I had, anyway, we'll get into it.

Howie Mandel (2:57)

No, because just linearly. And so I had, and if you're smart, if you have any, you know, experienced lawyer around you, if you're under investigation from the Department of Justice, you don't go around giving interviews or you shouldn't go around giving interviews. Right.

And at least in the old world, that would be the appropriate advice to anybody. And then there's another thing. They said, I don't work for my dad. I don't work for the administration. I don't, you know, I don't know of anyone that's closer to my dad than I am, but I don't, I didn't involve myself in his day-to-day decision making even remotely in the White House. And so therefore, you have this entire apparatus that's working towards a kind of a singular goal on behalf of the president's agenda. And inserting yourself into that is, I think, just disastrous for the country.

Well, you are. And so I'm not saying that I didn't have, I didn't talk to my dad around the dinner table when I'm with him, but I certainly didn't pick up the phone and say, hey, what the hell are you doing on this? Or what are you doing on that? It's just not, it's not appropriate. And there's so much. And there's nothing that he doesn't touch. And so if he asked for my advice about a particular thing, I would give it. But my point is that I didn't further complicate things by going out and getting ahead of wherever the administration was on any given thing. And so long story short, I spent a lot of time talking, I mean, being quiet and healing. And my addiction was really severe. Rebuilding my family, making amends, doing all the things that I needed to do in order for my recovery to progress. And when he left office, I spent another year.
