So we see all of these things show up with young kids. The obsessions and the rituals can become more complicated, intrusive thoughts become more disturbing as you get older. But there's a lot of little kid compulsions that are repetition and a lot of fear that if you don't do the thing that you're supposed to do, that someone will die.

Welcome to season nine of Flusterclux With Lynn Lyons, where we talk about managing worry, anxiety and all the other emotions too.
Lynn Lyons (0:51)
I'm Lynn Lyons. I'm an anxiety expert, author, speaker and mom. I've been a therapist for 35 years, and I'm still in the trenches with families, helping them navigate daily struggles and big problems. Parenting can be a Flusterclux, but we tackle the serious stuff without being too serious.
Robin Hutson (1:08)
I'm Robin. I'm Lynn's sister-in-law and co-host, and I'm here to ask your questions.
SPEAKER_1 (1:12)
And I met the producer of Flusterclux.
Lynn Lyons (1:14)
And my brother.
Robin Hutson (1:15)
And my husband.
Lynn Lyons (1:16)
Anxiety is a family problem with a family solution.
Hey, Lynn. Hey, Robin. How are you today? I'm pretty good. Except I took my poodle to the groomer, and the groomer said, your poodle has really bad breath, which I knew. But she said, you need to take your poodle to get her teeth taking care of.
And I got an estimate for that. And y'all know that I am like new to this poodle ownership, like I'm a year in. It's really expensive to get your dog's teeth taking care of.
Robin Hutson (1:48)
Is taking care of like a teeth cleaning? I don't have a dog, so I don't know what that means.
Lynn Lyons (1:53)
Well, I think that it means, what it means is that they will sedate her and then clean her teeth. And if there's any kind of problem, like sometimes they take a tooth out or something like that.
Robin Hutson (2:04)
Oh, I see.
Lynn Lyons (2:05)
But it's going to be like a thousand dollars.
Robin Hutson (2:07)
Do you have poodle dental insurance?
Lynn Lyons (2:13)
No. Do you know somebody? Yeah.
I'm just going to have to suck it up. Yeah. So anyway, it's fine. I love my little poodle. When they gave me the estimate from the vet, I was like, holy bananas. The dog owners out there are like, yes, yes, that's what it costs. But I was a little surprised.
Robin Hutson (2:31)
Have you been following the trends in medical tourism where you go to countries where you get services at a better price? People go and do facelifts in one country, hair transplants in another. I am not getting a hair transplant, but I'm flying Turkish airlines very soon somewhere.
The nickname of that airline is Turkish hairlines, because there are all these medical facilities that specialize in men's, probably, I guess women's too, hair transplants. Someone I know who came back from Istanbul said, everyone had bandaged skulls as if they were coming home from a war, but it was just that. And I have heard people go to Mexico for good dental. So maybe you and your little poodle could take a little beach vacation.
Lynn Lyons (3:21)
All right. Well, that's an option, like Peruvian poodle lines or something. I'll figure it out. But yeah, I have heard about that. Maybe I'll have to go somewhere where there'll be a twofer.
So I'll get like an eye lift and she'll get her teeth pulled.
Robin Hutson (3:36)
Yeah, exactly. I'm telling you, I think Mexico is like a very popular destination for good dental work. That's a new travel agency niche I'm going to focus on.
Lynn Lyons (3:47)
Yeah. When I think about the prospect of taking a poodle to Mexico, I'm like, you know what? I'm just going to pay the vet up the street. Yeah.
Robin Hutson (3:55)
So we're going to talk about OCD today.
Lynn Lyons (3:57)
That was a bumpy segue, wasn't it?
It is. My poodle needs a tooth pulled. And also, let's talk about OCD. Yeah. All right. Let's do it. Okay. Go ahead.
Robin Hutson (4:07)
We usually don't record this early, so I apologize in advance.
Lynn Lyons (4:14)
Everybody, you'll listen like the caffeine will kick in as we go. Yeah.
Robin Hutson (4:18)
Give me like another 40 minutes.
