Welcome to The Bossticks, starring Lauryn Bosstick and Michael Bosstick. Together, they are The Bossticks.

Lauryn Bosstick (0:14)

Welcome to the show. I saw you on Instagram maybe a year and a half ago. You popped up.

Yhasmina Ferrara (0:22)

I'm flattered.

Lauryn Bosstick (0:23)

And your perspective was really fresh, but also the way that your personality came through your Instagram, I thought was a unique point of view and that you had a real taste.

Yhasmina Ferrara (0:34)

Thank you.

Lauryn Bosstick (0:34)

Is that something that you thought about or is it something that you fell into naturally?

Yhasmina Ferrara (0:40)

When it comes to being a creator, I don't buy into the culture. I don't do an alo-gem. I don't go to events. I'm really not that girl. I'm truly living my authentic life. Plus, I bring my phone and I bring people along.

Lauryn Bosstick (0:52)

Is the personality always been there?

Yhasmina Ferrara (0:54)

The personality has always been there. Yeah, definitely.

Lauryn Bosstick (0:56)

Since you were little?

Yhasmina Ferrara (0:57)

Since I was little. I mean, I used to have looks and those have faded. I used to have a body that's gone with left-chairs personality. They come for the personality, they stay for it. Like, there's nothing left.

Lauryn Bosstick (1:05)

The outfit is gorgeous.

Yhasmina Ferrara (1:07)

Thank you.

Lauryn Bosstick (1:07)

The handbags, all the stuff.

Yhasmina Ferrara (1:09)

Thank you.

Lauryn Bosstick (1:10)

You also, the way you show us your pieces feels like, this is weird, that you're just like a collector and you're really into it and you're involved. It doesn't feel like you're just like showing off.

Yhasmina Ferrara (1:21)

Thank you. That's really kind.

Lauryn Bosstick (1:23)

I want to follow you. It's not like an account that makes you feel bad.

Yhasmina Ferrara (1:29)

Okay.

Lauryn Bosstick (1:29)

I love that.

Yhasmina Ferrara (1:29)

I'm also a high-low person. I will be head to toe in czar and then I'll have a nice handbag. I'm very much that high-low person.

I'm into czar, mango, H&M, all that kind of stuff.

Lauryn Bosstick (1:39)

Have you always been like that?

Yhasmina Ferrara (1:41)

Always. I used to be dressed in Forever 21 with a Chanel handbag. I was wearing an eight-dollar outfit and that one Chanel handbag that my mom got me for Christmas, that I wore every single fucking day to every event, every date, every single thing. Like my outfit was Forever 21 I was rocking it.

Lauryn Bosstick (1:53)

I like the high and low.

Yhasmina Ferrara (1:54)

Yeah, me too.

Lauryn Bosstick (1:55)

I think that that shows that you really have like taste, that when you can mix both. So how do you get into sharing your life online and putting this personality out there? Did someone tell you you needed to do it?

Yhasmina Ferrara (2:06)

A lot of people have been telling me for a long time, and I wanted to, I think, for a very long time, but I was scared. It's a very scary industry. So I was 34 years old, and I'd been working as a wedding planner for over a decade, and I was burnt out. I mean, the service industry, working with people, you burn out. And I wanted to work in fashion. In my mind, I was like, I should work in fashion. My God, I have such great taste. So I started applying for all these fashion jobs, and no one's interested in me because I don't have a fashion resume. And I'm kind of getting interviews for jobs where it's like steaming garments, unboxing bags, like $18 an hour, which is totally fine, but I was in my mid-30s. I'd already done that shit in my 20s. You know what I mean? I did not wanna go there. So I was like, okay, I'm gonna start posting on Instagram, and someone at the right company's gonna see my potential, and they will offer me a job.

And I never thought it would turn into a job. Within the year I'd gained, within like eight months, I gained 100,000 followers. And it just like very quickly took off.

Lauryn Bosstick (3:01)

That is not normal in a year to gain 100,000 followers. So to me, you really have to stand out to do that. What do you think it was about you that made people follow you? Cause that's crazy.

Yhasmina Ferrara (3:13)

Yeah, so I've been doing it for about three and a half years now and I'm almost at 500K.

Yes, so there's a lot of growth. I think, I mean, as cliche as it sounds is talk to the camera. Authenticity, personality, any girl can look good in an outfit, any girl can take a pretty photo, very few people can talk to the camera authentically and open up their hearts and share their vulnerabilities and connect with people. I think that's what people are looking for, to connect and to see themselves represented online.
