Welcome to The Dave Chang Show. I am here with Chris Ying and producer David. We just celebrated July 4th. The World Cup is in full swing. Lots of Americana, lots of patriotism. And I've been thinking about it a lot. And even though I'm an endorsement by nature, I think the 4th of July is actually maybe the best holiday out there. Everybody likes it, young and old. You get to blow shit up, love fireworks. And of course, everyone has the day off, for the most part, except for the hospitality industry, some people. But the best part is that it's very low lift. If you're going to cook or if you're going to host, there's almost no prep. So just get the grill going, get some beverages opened up, and have some fun, and you're done. I think it's pretty standard that July 4th. It's hamburgers, it's hot dogs, it's potato salad, macaroni salad, pasta salad.
As a host, it still worked, you don't have to go crazy. Clearly, some people will, but you could get by with just grocery store hamburgers and hot dogs and the sides and call it a day, have some ice cream or simple dessert or no dessert.
It's good.

When you say this, it clicks for me because Thanksgiving, you're supposed to have a turkey, which cannot be done easily. Christmas, you're supposed to have, what, a prime rib or something?

Whether it's lamb or ham or something.

A bunch of stuff that takes a bunch of work. You don't just get away with it on July 4th, you're supposed to just grill.

It's so weird. It's so weird that this is your holiday.

It's because I was thinking about it because I don't love everything. I was like, oh, I'm always very grateful that July 4th is coming because it's this one thing that I'm like, my kids are going to love it. I'm going to love it. I love fireworks.
For the hospitality industry, it's the only day restaurants for the most part are closed that I've ever worked. All right. So it's the one day everybody I know is off for the most part.

What are the essential items at 4th of July?

So again, besides having a hamburger, cheeseburger, hot dogs, these are things that you can buy at the store and you can buy the salads.
You can definitely have macaroni salad. Sometimes you have coleslaw, which is my favorite, and everyone has potato salad.

I love coleslaw because there's so many varieties.

Yeah, you can have one that's mayonnaise based. You can have one that's just vinegar based.
