Hacks and Hobbies with Junaid Ahmed

Key Takeaways Clarity isn’t the problem—truth is. Most people say “I don’t know what to do,” but deep down they’re avoiding the truth they already sense God is showing them. Purpose lives in the small hinges.

Most people say, they're waiting for clarity. But what if clarity isn't something you receive, it's something you face. Today's guest says, most people don't have a clarity problem, they have a truth problem. By the end of this episode, you'll learn why traditional personal development keeps people stuck. By striving, sabotages, your calling and how to activate your highest purpose without burning out.

Donna Tashjian (1:33)

Thank you. It's a pleasure to be here.

Junaid Ahmed (1:36)

You know, Donna, you say most people don't lack clarity, they avoid it. And that's controversial. Can you unpack that for me?

Donna Tashjian (1:47)

I think that there is a level where we do lack clarity, but the clarity is coming by what we're focusing on.

And most of the time, we're focusing on our insecurities, we're focusing on what we can't do, we're focusing on the problems, and whatever you focus on, you get more of. And so even the statement, I don't know what to do, keeps you stuck, and I don't know what to do. It keeps you in that frame. But I begin to say when I wanted to say, I don't know what to do, that I always know what to do. With God on my side, I always know what to do. I have wisdom, I have knowledge that I always know what to do. And then I would get quiet till I do know what to do.

But a lot of times we're over complicating things, we get stuck in our, like I say, in our own insecurities with all of that. And it is, anything is possible if we just believe.

Junaid Ahmed (2:52)

Amen. You know, I'm a huge believer of believing in the oneness and the ultimate power, you know, as a practicing Muslim myself, you know, believing Allah and believing that he is the one who's providing all of these things for us. Like we wouldn't breathe the next breath if he hadn't said, you can't, right? But Donna, where do you see people lying to themselves the most when it comes to purpose?

Donna Tashjian (3:26)

I think we, again, and you know, I love that we're both here together. I am a Christian, and I know, and so Jesus is our source in understanding that. But learning that as far as purpose goes, the thing that we really try to make it something bigger, like it's so out there.

It's like this grandiose thing. And one of my favorite phrases that I wrote a blog on many years ago was, small hinges move big doors.

Junaid Ahmed (4:04)

Oh, yes.

Donna Tashjian (4:05)

And it isn't that we need to do. What does great for Donna look like? And what does great for you look like? And we always compare to people that seemingly have something huge, you know, that they've accomplished. When me showing up and telling you, I believe in you, could change your whole life.

And me praying for you or sharing, giving you a hug if we were in person, you know, all of those kind of things can change somebody's whole trajectory. I had a call that moved me to tears on Monday of this week. And a woman scheduled a call with me that I had talked to a year and a half ago. And I didn't think it had gone anywhere. It's one of those calls, is they schedule a call with a coach, you help them and they go, I can't, now's not the time to do anything more. And she said, I scheduled a call just to tell you, Donna, you saved my life.

I was suicidal. I didn't think I had any reason to live. I was thinking all those thoughts. And after the call with you and the things you said, I began to think differently and I made different choices. Now I went back and looked at the transcript and the questions and I'm like, what did I do, God?

Junaid Ahmed (5:30)

Yeah.
