Zack Chroman and Tanner Hoke, two former mathletes, run Alcedine Technologies. They're one of the biggest trading firms operating in the market of predicting the future.

SPEAKER_3 (1:25)

Right.

We're looking at a financial space where contracts are tied directly to reality. The underlying assets are entirely based on real world outcomes like elections, sports, economic reports.

SPEAKER_4 (1:37)

Yeah. Chroman and Hoke have positioned Alcedine at the absolute top of this arena.

They deploy these automated, highly sophisticated systems to essentially place wagers on what happens next.

SPEAKER_3 (1:50)

And they do this with such a relentless, continuous volume that they rank among the top 10 traders across regulated US exchanges, which is just wild when you think about it.

SPEAKER_4 (2:00)

We're talking about an operation processing millions of distinct data points, executing thousands of trades a second. They're standing shoulder to shoulder with institutional behemoths on the order books.

SPEAKER_3 (2:11)

But you look at that top 10 status and the immediate contrast is just how completely invisible they are to the rest of the world.

SPEAKER_4 (2:18)

Yeah, almost nobody knows who they are. Alcedine is moving an incredible amount of volume on platforms where people put money on real world outcomes, but their website is effectively bare.

SPEAKER_3 (2:29)

Exactly. Their profile on Kalshi, which is one of the primary exchanges they operate on, is set entirely to private.

SPEAKER_4 (2:37)

Even within the highly specialized community of high frequency traders who spend their entire day staring at these specific order books, very few people have even heard the name Alcedine.

SPEAKER_3 (2:48)

Let alone understand what their internal architecture looks like. I mean, they operate with total anonymity while carrying an enormous amount of financial weight in the system.

SPEAKER_4 (2:57)

That level of anonymity requires active, deliberate effort when you're moving that much capital. Hitting the top 10 in trading volume means they're involved in an astronomical number of contracts all at once.

SPEAKER_3 (3:08)

Which sets up the central question for you to keep in mind here. When young quants wager millions a week on these prediction platforms, are they actually good at forecasting the future or have they just found a mathematical edge in the plumbing of a new financial system?

SPEAKER_4 (3:23)

If you're not subscribed yet, take a second and hit follow on whatever podcast app you're using. It helps us keep making this. We appreciate you being here.

SPEAKER_3 (3:32)

So to answer that, you have to look at who is actually dominating platforms like Kalshi and Polymarket right now. It's almost exclusively 20-something traders.

SPEAKER_4 (3:41)

They come straight out of college armed with backgrounds in applied mathematics, physics, computer science. A lot of them, including the founders of Alcedine, are former programming competitors.

SPEAKER_3 (3:51)

Yeah, they spent their adolescence in environments where they were handed a rigid set of logical parameters, right? And told to write code that solves an abstract puzzle faster than the person sitting next to them.

SPEAKER_4 (4:02)

And they took that exact competitive programming architecture and aimed it directly at the order books of financial prediction markets. They're launching their own small trading shops to compete directly on the exchanges.

SPEAKER_3 (4:13)

The mindset of a competitive mathlete or programmer is entirely geared toward optimization, not narrative. When they look at a contract about a political election or an economic data release, they do not care about the speeches or the cultural mood.
