Good day, listeners. And welcome to another episode of the Scouting Australia Podcast, powered by Australian Property Scout Buyers Agency. I'm your host, Sammy Gordon. And today, guys, I'm absolutely pumped up. We've got a young lady here who's achieved an extremely impressive feat, over a 15 month window, snapping up five properties in that timeframe for a portfolio value just shy of $2.7 million. I'd like to welcome Maddie into the studio. How are you?

Maddey (0:31)

Thank you so much for having me. I'm well, thanks.

Sammy Gordon (0:33)

That's great. That's great. It's an absolute pleasure to be down here. Now we're in your hometown of Adelaide and we've just gone out. We've had a nice red. We're out with the producer girls. We've had a nice dinner. We've had some red wine from the Adelaide Hills and we're ripping and raring to go. How are you feeling about doing today's podcast?

Maddey (0:49)

A little bit nervous, but I'm keen to share my story.

Sammy Gordon (0:51)

We're absolutely pumped to have you on. Now I know there's a little bit of obviously a little bit of banter within the family as well. Your brother, competition, I should say. Your brother is obviously an APS client as well as your mom too. Now your brother's obviously an APS client. He similarly has done five deals as well. Competition-wise in the family, how does that look?

Maddey (1:11)

Yeah, it's good. It's been nice having the support the whole way through the journey. Yep.

Sammy Gordon (1:14)

Yeah, that's cool. That's cool. I know he's, I know because from memory, you bought the, he bought the first one, but then you bought the last one. So you've beaten him in the sprint.

Maddey (1:23)

Yeah, correct.

Sammy Gordon (1:24)

We're gonna have to get him on the podcast. We're gonna head over west one day. He would love that. We'll get him on the podcast and we'll do a comparison story. But look, I am also really pumped for today's episode. For one, we haven't had a female investor on the solo investor on the podcast for so long. So I'm really excited to dive in your journey. But also you're actually my first investor story that I've ever done that hasn't been with a client that I've worked with personally from a strategy perspective for such a long period of time. Now I know I'm big Pauli Carpiez, I'm one of the head strategists over obviously at APS as well has taken care of your journey. Big shout out to Pauli, but he gave me a mad rap on you, Greg run down on your scenario situation, everything you've gone through. But I personally don't know your journey from the very start as well. So I want to go all the way back to the start and I'd love you to take back to the start as to what got you into investing, what was your parents push on you for hard work and investing and everything else from their background and how that may be implemented yours if you'd be able to fill me in I guess on a bit of your backstory and what led us to where we are today.

Maddey (2:24)

Yeah, of course. So I'm the eldest of four children. I've got three younger brothers.

My parents growing up were in hotels and they were always extremely hard workers. My mum prior to meeting my dad had investment properties which helped them get into their next property together. They've always pushed me to work hard. When I was 13 years old and nine months, I worked at McDonald's which is the legal age that you're allowed to work.

Sammy Gordon (2:55)

So your parents, they got you into working very young. They obviously built that work ethic into you as well, which we've obviously seen through the sprint that you've had in your journey so far and how hard you've been willing to push as well. But so they're in the hotel business, right? And then they've obviously helped or sort of, I guess, modeled you into the idea of working young, working early and getting that work ethic into you. Like so you worked at McDonald's from 13 and nine months and then from there, sort of, you know, how did you, I'm curious even into career wise, I guess where that pathway led as well.

Maddey (3:26)

Yeah, of course. So coming out of school, I wasn't a hundred percent sure what I wanted to do. I went to university and dad was an accountant before getting into hotels. So I studied commerce for a little bit, didn't love that. And then I ended up actually getting into construction and I was doing traffic control and driving hoist. And my project manager at the time was a female and she actually inspired me to go study construction management.
