The Carton Show with Craig Carton & Chris McMonigle
September 4, 2026

Craig Carton (0:00)
I'm getting the wheel ready. Getting the wheel ready.
Zach Gelb (0:03)
Very secretive on that wheel.
Craig Carton (0:04)
I do love, what, cause you're gonna play the game? Ah. I don't wanna give you the answers.
Zach Gelb (0:09)
Why not?
Craig Carton (0:09)
Because you gotta play the game.
Chris McMonigle (0:11)
Get locked in the Thunderdome.
Craig Carton (0:13)
You gotta know what it's like to have the lights bright, and you gotta come up with a name that you know the second the clock hits zero, you're gonna have 15 of them, but you can't think of it in the moment.
Zach Gelb (0:21)
Yeah, that happened with me already this summer.
Craig Carton (0:23)
It happens all the time, what happened with you in the summer?
Zach Gelb (0:25)
Craig made, named, Mikes.
Craig Carton (0:28)
There's a bunch of Mikes.
Zach Gelb (0:29)
And then after like, I got six, and then after that...
Tony Gallo (0:32)
That's not bad.
Chris McMonigle (0:33)
It was better than what we did.
Zach Gelb (0:35)
And then midway through the show, I'm just like, Michael Vick.
Tony Gallo (0:37)
Oh, you come up with a million of them. Michael Phelps.
Craig Carton (0:39)
That's exactly how it works.
Chris McMonigle (0:40)
But we'll play the game next week. Damien Woody, he cracked under pressure.
Zach Gelb (0:43)
Did he?
Chris McMonigle (0:43)
He didn't wanna do it. He was like, no.
Craig Carton (0:45)
I know, people don't, it's not easy.
Zach Gelb (0:47)
That's why the Patriots got rid of him.
Craig Carton (0:49)
That's why he couldn't go.
Zach Gelb (0:50)
I hate Damien Woody to be clear.
Chris McMonigle (0:51)
Yeah, I was gonna say, what two Zoophiles did you guys?
Zach Gelb (0:54)
He could have won another. He could have went to Cleveland.
Craig Carton (0:58)
You don't win Super Bowls there.
Zach Gelb (0:59)
No.
Chris McMonigle (1:00)
No. You win nothing there.
Craig Carton (1:04)
Are they the, I mean, I think it's underrated because I mean, if I were to say to you, the worst franchise in sports, worst franchise in sports, just-
Zach Gelb (1:12)
Jets.
Craig Carton (1:13)
Just you would say Jets. Not necessarily like just in general, over their years, what's like the most unproductive losing franchise in sports?
What would you say? You say Jets.
Zach Gelb (1:24)
I'm saying Jets.
Craig Carton (1:25)
Okay, Gallo.
There's not a wrong or right answer. I'm saying you real quick. Worst franchise in the history of sports?
Chris McMonigle (1:32)
All iterations of the New Orleans basketball team.
Zach Gelb (1:36)
Hornets, Pelicans.
Tony Gallo (1:36)
I mean, why do we have to just skip?
Craig Carton (1:38)
Come on, long time, long term.
Zach Gelb (1:40)
I'll give you two answers.
Tony Gallo (1:41)
That's my one.
Craig Carton (1:42)
Okay, your one, the Pelicans.
Zach Gelb (1:44)
I know they've been better recently. The Lions were dreadful.
Craig Carton (1:47)
Bingo. That's where I was getting at.
Zach Gelb (1:48)
The Sacramento Kings.
Craig Carton (1:51)
No, I don't think many people say the Lions.
They've never been to a Super Bowl. They've been part of the NFL forever.
Zach Gelb (2:00)
And they were on 16 one year.
Craig Carton (2:02)
Yeah, like the Lions don't get enough credit for being as bad and just awful as they've been.
Zach Gelb (2:08)
Recently, that's why.
Craig Carton (2:09)
Right, I think most fans would say the Browns, people would say the Jets. There's other organizations that people, the Lions, it's astounding that they've never won a championship.
Zach Gelb (2:20)
The Vikings, they have some bad luck too.
Craig Carton (2:22)
Yeah, they do.
Zach Gelb (2:23)
They've been good.
Craig Carton (2:24)
They've been to a bunch of Super Bowls, never won them. But yeah, I mean, there's definitely a couple, but I feel like the Lions would be lower down the list. I'm glad you said the Lions, because that's what I was thinking.
I know, right, I don't know if they're going to have a great year. You think they're going to win the division this year? You think they have the bounce back?
Zach Gelb (2:38)
Yeah, I do. They were nine and eight last year for a year where everything hit the fan. That's a little good football team.
Craig Carton (2:43)
No, it is. It's still a good football team, a great football coach. I will see.
That offense last year without Ben Johnson, though, I'm a little concerned. We'll see. But that division is tough, though. That is a tough NFC North.
Chris McMonigle (2:57)
The Browns have made the playoffs, what, twice in the last 20 years? They made it once in the early 2000s, right?
