Last stop of The Carton Show, taking it till 7 o'clock.
We got After Hours with Thomas Lugauer next. At least that's what I'm assuming. Haven't seen him yet. And we got till 7 o'clock, 888-808-1019, having a little fun there with Brian Cashman and going to the Mets. Look, we'll see if they wait until Brian Cashman signs a contract before they address the media, and that's kind of where we started with that conversation. Because look, I don't know, like, because Craig opened the show talking about the fan base deserves to hear from them, and I don't disagree that we do, but I think that speaks to some of their problems.
Like, right, we talk about they deserve to understand Judge's injury.
And they don't care. And I think on that one, Judge doesn't care, quite honest with you. And I'm not saying he should, it's his injury, but like, what other, why wasn't it just more out in the open?
Like, why didn't Judge and Boone and Cash and whoever else sit in front of a podium before the postseason started? And I know Joel Sherman has said this, but like they should have all sat at the podium and said, look, he's got a grade two strain. This is a five to six week injury typically. We're going to push it as far as we can, but until he hits certain benchmarks, it's out of the question. Like, that's it. They don't like, they don't feel the need to be transparent on things. And sometimes I don't care all that much. I really don't, sometimes I don't need to know everything that's going on. It didn't matter, Judge didn't play. It didn't matter whether we knew it or not. But when it starts to feel like it's hovering over the team, that's when I have a problem with it. And right now, I don't think the Yankees are in any rush to get in front of a microphone and answer our questions, because they don't care. Like, they don't care to answer the questions. I said this when a lot of people, I remember, not to bring this whole thing up, but like, I remember going at it with Marash, and Marathyr was like, look, you see that bad trade deadline? Up comes Lombard. All right, fans are all pissed, they didn't trade for a catcher, they didn't trade for a reliever. Now they give us the young kid to try and seduce us, and so we don't complain about the trade deadline. And my point was, they don't care. You think they care, you're screaming about the trade deadline?
Craig Carton (2:40)
They don't care.
Chris McMonigle (2:43)
They don't care that we, that the fan base ones boon fired, they don't care, like, they don't. And in some ways, that's a healthy organization, right? The old cliché, if you listen to the fans, you'll be sitting next to them, but I really don't think they're in a big rush to get out in front of the media and answer questions about another disastrous postseason performance. I really don't think they're in a rush to do it. So I don't know when we'll see them, but I don't know, and maybe it will be until they give Brian Cashman a new contract. I doubt very much Brian Cashman intends to leave. He either intends to retire or to sign another deal. And my guess would be they're very much inclined to give him one. I think it'll be a four or five year deal, and that will be the end of Brian Cashman's tenure. I doubt he signs another contract. They've already had like discussions in the last few years about him transitioning to a different role in the organization. That might be upon us now. That could be part of it too. I don't know. But whatever he wants to do for sure is what's gonna be what happens, would be my guess. If Brian Cashman wants back, he will be back. And I do think you can make an argument that he's set like, right now, I feel fairly positive about them moving forward. And I know that's what I do. I hear you. And things definitely need to change. And I do think the one aspect of the lineup needing more contact at the bottom. And if you listen to Joe Girardi today with Joel Sherman, he talked about the one clips out there about the accountability stuff, but he also mainly talked about how, like, everyone in the lineup is the same. Like, Ryan McMahon is supposed to be, and he just turned out to be an absolute zero, but even Ryan McMahon at his best is a 220 hitter who might hit your 20-25 home runs. Austin Wells is a 230 hitter who might hit your 20-25 home runs. Like, Jazz is a low batting average, high strikeout guy, but he could hit you 30-plus home runs. Like, they're all, even the lesser hitters are all the same. They're all the same. You've got the home run hitters who are good at it, and then you've got the home run hitters who are bad at it. Like, that's, and that's a group, I've said it like from the beginning, like I've agreed with that. I don't think it means you can't win. That's where I differ from most fans. Have the guy, have the Austin Wells come in and hit the big home run. Have jazz go on a tear and hit the home run. Like, we've seen lesser players like them dominate series. It's possible.
