888-808-1019, Pete thought he might have me stumped with Savoy Truffle. Never heard of Savoy Truffle before.

SPEAKER_2 (0:07)

I don't think I'm going to get you stumped.

Chris McMonigle (0:08)

No. I'm just waiting for the song that you go, eh, don't like this one so much. On this album, this is the white album, Glass Onion is my least favorite Beatles song. Coming out next, gotcha. Don't do that. It's not a bad song by any means. I love old Beatles songs, but Glass Onion's always like my least favorite. And I will also say this, and this bothers people too, not that we're going to talk about the Beatles, I'm moving on to your phone calls, 888-808-808-101-9. This is Nick's Banner Night. If you're heading to the stadium, stadium, if you're heading to the garden, getting ready, get ready, there's already a banner hanging up for the cup.

But Nowhere Man is my least favorite, number one hit. But anyway, we move on. 888-808-101-9, and yes, we start. And to me, and I don't want to downplay the rings, and I don't want to downplay the banner, and I don't want to downplay celebrating what happened last year. I saw the uniforms. I'm assuming they're wearing. I don't know if you've seen this, but like the uniforms are gold embroidered, like the numbers and the New York and the lettering on the names are all gold for the to celebrate them as NBA Champions of last year. They look sick.

I love the unis. We'll see what they see if that's what they're wearing or if they're warm up unis, or if they're actually gonna be allowed in the game. But it's gold lettering, gold numbering. It looks awesome with the white jersey. It looks fantastic.

But to me, and I know this is kind of parsing words maybe, I can't wait, one, to just have the Knicks back playing basketball and that the season's back on. But to me, it's really about the start of being defending champion. It's not necessarily celebrating last year, which I know we are. And we always will, right? That year was special. I said it earlier. I got a lot of my Yankee fans mad at me because I didn't throw 96 in the mix with the Yankees.

SPEAKER_3 (2:03)

To me, the two most special.

Chris McMonigle (2:04)

And I know 96 was a great year.

First year with Joe Torre, first year with Derek Cheater. They go out and beat the Braves who were defending champions in that rotation. They thought they were going to kill them. They lose the first two games in embarrassing fashion at Yankee Stadium, and then they win three in a row in Atlanta and cap it off in six.

It's a great championship. To me, though, the two great ones that I have seen in my lifetime are the Giants beating the undefeated Patriots and the Knicks last year. Those are the two championships that just feel a little bit different than even any of the Yankees. I'm a bigger Yankee fan than I am a Giant or a Knicks fan. I'm a Yankee crazy fan. We know this. Those two championships felt different. They felt special. 96 was special, but maybe because I was more of a kid back in 96 than I was in 2008 and February of 8 and June of last year. Maybe that's why. But those two stand out at me. It's just, I mean, they beat an undefeated Bill Belichick and Tom Brady led team. That team goes on. If they win that game, that's the greatest team in the history of the NFL that they beat. 14 point underdogs, miraculous play, the helmet catch, like the whole bit. That was just, they beat Brett Favre, they beat the Dallas Cowboys.

Like that was just a special all on the road. Nobody at that point, I don't know about it later, but nobody beat Brett Favre in the cold like that. Like Tom Coughlin's face turning red in that freezing cold, that game. Jacobs with the first hit to set the tone, Plaxico, the kick, the whole bit. That was just special. And last year with the Knicks was just special as they just became something else. So as much as I love celebrating last year and as much as I love both banners being hung and I can't wait to see that banner be put up and I wanna see them celebrate and get the rings, the garden going crazy, to me, this is about what's coming up because the entire year, it's not necessarily celebrating, but the entire year, the Knicks are defending champions and everybody is coming after them. This Philadelphia team is put together. They make the trade for Brown. They bring in Lebron. Why? To beat the Knicks. That's why. To beat the Knicks, to become the Knicks. The Knicks are at the top of the pyramid. They are the kings. Everybody is coming after them.
