Hour 4: Roger Clemens on Modern Pitching and His Hall of Fame Snub

Craig Carton (0:00)

Ah, it's a classic.

Chris McMonigle (0:01)

You ever think about being a music DJ?

Craig Carton (0:03)

A music DJ? No, not really a DJ. Craig DJs?

I never really thought about being a DJ.

Chris McMonigle (0:08)

No, maybe like a jock on the air.

Craig Carton (0:10)

Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. Like, yeah.

Chris McMonigle (0:11)

455

Craig Carton (0:12)

Yeah.

Yeah, I mean, I thought about that before I got into this when I went to Connecticut School of Broadcasting. I tried a little bit of that. But then I got this, so I stuck with it. But I could see myself doing that, spinning tunes.

Chris McMonigle (0:25)

If I was being serious, I would have you as like a guest host on the Beatles channel or something.

Craig Carton (0:30)

Hell, yeah.

Chris McMonigle (0:30)

Top five favorite Beatles songs.

Craig Carton (0:32)

Oh, easy. It rotates, but I think I could do top five Beatles songs relatively easy and talk about them.

Zach Gelb (0:41)

Top five? You do like a top 50?

Craig Carton (0:43)

I could do a top 50, yes. I think I could do a top 50

Zach Gelb (0:46)

There's what?

Craig Carton (0:47)

Right now, at the top of my head.

No, just kidding. Soccer style kicker.

Zach Gelb (0:52)

Put it on the wheel.

Craig Carton (0:53)

Put it on the wheel, top 50 Beatles songs. No, I already have a couple of categories.

Zach Gelb (0:58)

Craig gives us at least a hint here or there.

Craig Carton (1:01)

I'm afraid you're going to look it up.

Zach Gelb (1:02)

I would not.

Frank (1:04)

Let him be honest. First, I'll tell you what.

Zach Gelb (1:08)

After a full year, we haven't looked up one.

Craig Carton (1:11)

I'll give you one because I love playing Immaculate Grid.

Zach Gelb (1:18)

That's the whole thing.

Craig Carton (1:21)

I think it still is. I don't think it's as popular as it was.

SPEAKER_5 (1:23)

Now they have all the sports.

Craig Carton (1:25)

Now we're going to do Mets Giants as they play tonight. Players who have played for both the Mets and the San Francisco Giants.

Frank (1:34)

San Francisco Giants.

Craig Carton (1:35)

San Francisco Giants.

And you're all three Mets fans. So Mets who also played for the Giants.

Frank (1:41)

That's one. One comes to mind right away.

Chris McMonigle (1:42)

I can name that in five.

Craig Carton (1:44)

We're not playing the wheel now.

And that's no. That's List Town Met. I'm not going to think of one and you've got to guess. That's just the movie. This is how many Mets Giants can you think of?

Chris McMonigle (1:53)

There's a fitting one with Roger Clemens joining us at 5.30.

Craig Carton (1:56)

There is.

There's a couple of obvious ones. Hall of Fame comes to mind as well. Recent Hall of Fame member.

Zach Gelb (2:05)

But we'll do that.

Craig Carton (2:09)

There'll be a Yankee one in there too.

Chris McMonigle (2:11)

I can name three.

Craig Carton (2:13)

Yankees are playing the Padres.

Anything come to mind Yankees Padres? I just worked Mets Yankee. Mets Giants will do a Yankee Padre thing. Not Yankees and Padres, but they did play in 1998 in the World Series, so start using that mind.

Chris McMonigle (2:27)

I think my Roger Clemens clue could also be used for Yankees and Padres. Oh no, didn't play for the Yankees, my bad.

Craig Carton (2:34)

Okay.

Chris McMonigle (2:35)

Yeah. Just had a big moment against the Yankees.

Craig Carton (2:38)

Very few did. 888-808-101. Let's get back to the calls.

Let's go to Ryan and Queens. What's up, Ryan?

Ryan (2:46)

Hey, what's up, gentlemen? Great show. You guys are going very smoothly, very smoothly.

Craig Carton (2:51)

Thank you.

Ryan (2:52)

All right. I want to talk about, we were talking about regular season and postseason.

Dave (2:56)

Let's talk about Eli and Peyton.

Ryan (2:58)

So Eli Manning, regular season, he was 500, right? 117 or 117 Eli, I mean, Eli was 117, Peyton was 17 Peyton 186 and 179 So we'll give Peyton that. Let's go to the playoffs.

Playoffs, Peyton 14 and 13 in the playoff. Eli, 84 in the playoffs. Go against Tom Brady, Peyton Manning versus Tom Brady.

He lost 11 games or one six?

Roger Clemens (3:35)

I don't think that's true.

Frank (3:39)

I don't think his numbers are that bad.

Ryan (3:41)

Not in the playoff, not in the playoff.

Frank (3:43)

Oh, you're talking about overalls.

Craig Carton (3:44)

I was going to say in the playoffs, I don't think that's true. They didn't play that many times.
