Yankees are wrapping up their pregame warmups. Red Sox will take the field momentarily here at Yankee Stadium. There was one issue that came out that we talked about a couple hours ago, which was more of a social media issue than anything, I thought. And it kind of went viral, and that was, while on the TV broadcast, they did not show the players getting introduced last night.
I don't think they showed the anthem either, which is another thing, but Aaron Judge, despite the fact that every player in the dugout, even players that are not on the active roster, were introduced last night. So, for example, JC. Escara, who's here, but not on the playoff roster, he was introduced to the crowd last night. So there's, and they do it numerically. So there's an expectation last night that Aaron Judge, of course, while he's not on the wild card roster, would be the last player introduced. Crowd's gonna go crazy for him. And while we understand he's frustrated, he was not introduced last night. So Big Mac and I both deduced that that was by his choosing. That he must have said to them, look, I don't want to be introduced, whether it's because I'm not the story, or whatever the case may be.
He was in the dugout. He was very much involved in the game, from a rooting interest, but he was not introduced. Apparently, Aaron Boone was asked about that moments ago in his press conference.
Chris McMonigle (1:24)
And he pretty much said that he was in treatment. That was the answer, that he was running out on the field earlier. After the running, there was scheduled treatment. The treatment was run through the introduction. So Judge was getting treatment. And furthermore, he will not be at the game today. He is taking at bats in Somerset.
Against live pitching. He is getting ready to play. He is not taking days off of getting ready to play.
Craig Carton (1:51)
That's weird to me.
Chris McMonigle (1:52)
Okay.
Craig Carton (1:53)
And here's why. We're not going to make a mound out of a motel hill on it.
Chris McMonigle (1:56)
Okay.
Craig Carton (1:56)
But the game is in until 8 o'clock at night. The Somerset Patriots aren't playing baseball.
Chris McMonigle (2:02)
Let me make sure I spoke correctly.
Greg Rice (2:04)
Okay.
Chris McMonigle (2:06)
Maybe he could be in the game today.
Craig Carton (2:09)
Okay. Don't check that. Because that wouldn't make any sense.
Chris McMonigle (2:11)
He's in Somerset today taking live at bats. So I shouldn't say he won't be at the game today. He'll be here tonight. Maybe he'll be here in time for game or whatever. But he is in Somerset today taking at bats. When I read that, I took it as he won't be here. I took it as he's going to be in Somerset taking at bats for a while. But you're right, he very well could make the game, even if it's not first pitch.
Craig Carton (2:28)
I will say that it is a mortal luck that Aaron Judge is in the building tonight. And I think he's here for the first pitch as well. OK. Quick other baseball note. Philadelphia Phillies, I believe...
Chris McMonigle (2:40)
Just won the game.
Craig Carton (2:41)
They won the game in extras, right?
Chris McMonigle (2:43)
Yes. Alec Bohm, I believe, hit a solo home run in the top of the 10th, and they win 4-3 on an ABS challenge. I think that's the first playoff game. How could it not be?
Craig Carton (2:53)
Neither the bat got extended.
Chris McMonigle (2:55)
No. Strike three. A 0-2 count called ball, challenged by the Phillies, strike three to end the game. So the final pitch, the game ended on an ABS challenge.
Craig Carton (3:05)
And the Phillies now force a game three tomorrow in Atlanta. And again, to keep place here, not just a Bohm home run, but you had back-to-back Schwerber and Harper home runs to tie the game at three.
Chris McMonigle (3:17)
They were down two runs. They were down two runs specifically because Bryce Harper misplayed an easy fly ball on right field. And he made up for it. Him and Schwerber both hit solo home runs to tie the game. And then Bohm with a solo home run and extra innings. And there you go again.
Home runs winning playoff games. What a shocker.
Craig Carton (3:35)
She has Chisholm right now taking batting practice. He's going to be your starting second baseman tonight. So we'll keep an eye on that. And now let's take some phone calls as everybody's excited for Game 2 Wild Card Series here with the New York Yankees. Start off in the Bronx and Neil's on the fan. Neil, how are you doing, buddy?
