Hour 4: Gallo Slams Loser Mets Fans After Steve Cohen Applauds Pete Alonso

The Carton Show with Craig Carton & Chris McMonigle

September 17, 2026

Craig Carton and Anthony Gallo react to Mets owner Steve Cohen standing to applaud Pete Alonso’s 300th career home run during a loss. They debate the possibility of Alonso winning the American League MVP with the Orioles and how that would signify a disastrous year for New York.

So Mike Puma just put out a report. He spoke to Steve Cohen, I guess, moments ago.

Chris McMonigle (0:04)

Yep.

Craig Carton (0:05)

And Steve Cohen confirmed that it was him sitting in the front row.

He did stand up and applaud Pete Alonso's 300th homerun. And the quote from Steve Cohen was...

Anthony Gallo (0:16)

It was his 300th. I've got to give him props.

Craig Carton (0:19)

There you go. So, I met fans, I'm sure, not thrilled about that, considering you guys all stood up in unison and applauded Pete as much as a message to ownership as your support of Pete Alonso.

Anthony Gallo (0:32)

I'm interested to see how the Met fan actually feels about it because, like I said in one way, if he's going to stand up and applaud with you, he ain't getting the message.

Craig Carton (0:41)

You know what I'm saying?

Anthony Gallo (0:42)

Like, if you're doing this...

Chris McMonigle (0:43)

He's like, this is great!

Anthony Gallo (0:44)

To let him know we're unhappy and he's just there with you going, hey, everybody, get up!

Craig Carton (0:49)

Let's all get up and support the guy with the inside!

Anthony Gallo (0:51)

He ain't getting it. He's not...

You have no effect on him. You have no effect on him.

Craig Carton (0:57)

I have a crazy thing for you.

Anthony Gallo (0:59)

Yeah.

Craig Carton (1:00)

You're going to poo-poo this.

Anthony Gallo (1:02)

A traditional poo-pooer.

Craig Carton (1:04)

You're going to poo-poo it. Gallo's going to poo-poo it. Pete's going to poo-poo it. If Pete Alonso hits 40 home runs and the Orioles do sneak back in to the wild card...

Anthony Gallo (1:17)

After sweeping the Mets, getting hot, and getting into the playoffs, okay.

Craig Carton (1:21)

Any shot he's the American League MVP?

Unknown (1:24)

Um, no.

Craig Carton (1:27)

Now average-wise, no. He gets votes.

Anthony Gallo (1:33)

I mean, if he goes crazy...

Craig Carton (1:34)

If he's 40 and 115, RBI-wise, obviously.

Anthony Gallo (1:38)

I mean, I guess...

Craig Carton (1:38)

Played every single game, right? Yeah. I know there's an odds-on favorite right now. Is it Alvarez?

Anthony Gallo (1:44)

Yes. Alvarez is competing for the Triple Crown right now.

Craig Carton (1:48)

Totally get it.

Anthony Gallo (1:48)

So he is behind.

He missed a couple of games because he was banged up a little bit, but he's right there with Pete on RBI's. He's right there with Junior, Caminero and home runs. And right now, he is... I think he's still leading at batting average. But he might be right there with...

Craig Carton (2:03)

So I would say if the Orioles don't make the playoffs, it's a moot point, right? What if they do make the playoffs?

Anthony Gallo (2:08)

I'm not going to poo-poo it.

Craig Carton (2:10)

Pete's going to get votes.

Anthony Gallo (2:11)

He'll get some votes if he carries them the rest of the way.

Craig Carton (2:14)

The reason I bring it up is, if you want to add the ultimate insult to injury to the Mets, not only does he hit his 300th homerun in your stadium, right, and meets the three Mets fans afterwards and gives them signed bats and signed their jerseys, and he gets the ball back and all that stuff, right? And then the owner's standing with 35,000 fans actually applauding a homerun by a player playing against the team he owns, which is crazy when you view it on the surface.

But if you want it to really come up at the caper for this, Pete Alonso wins the MVP in the American League. It's not far-fetched.

Anthony Gallo (2:54)

If Pete Alonso wins the American League MVP, Pete Crowe Armstrong wins the National League MVP.

Craig Carton (2:59)

Two former Mets.

Anthony Gallo (3:00)

The Yankees go to the World Series.

Craig Carton (3:02)

Yeah.

Anthony Gallo (3:03)

Like...

Craig Carton (3:03)

And the Brewers advance a couple rounds also.

Anthony Gallo (3:06)

That's the worst. I mean, can you imagine? That is such a disastrous year for them. Yes, I can imagine.

Unknown (3:12)

Or Diaz is the closing the last out of the World Series.

Craig Carton (3:15)

Yeah, he's not going to make that postseason roster, I don't think, in LA, but you're right. If that happened, yes, it's crazy.

Unknown (3:21)

Or Brandon Nemo hits a big home run for... I don't know if the Rangers are still in it.

Anthony Gallo (3:25)

The Rangers are right in it. They've actually won four in a row. They've climbed right back into the playoff contention. Brandon Nemo getting a big hit.

Unknown (3:34)

Thank God Jeff McNeil's on a terrible team and he's awful.
