It's coming as hard as it's ever.
Craig Carton (0:01)
Yes, it is, baby. 357 Carton Show Big Mac.
Chris McMonigle (0:05)
In the little door house, I'm not so sure.
Craig Carton (0:07)
Not anymore. No, no, everything's soft there now, that's for sure. So real quick, Big Mac, I'm going to ask you a question I was asked this morning.
Chris McMonigle (0:13)
Okay.
Craig Carton (0:14)
I went on a naturally recognized podcast this morning, and I was asked a question.
Is there a buzz right now for the New York Giants? Now, I was not asked about the Jets, but I added the fact that there's a buzzer on the Jets as well. So, I'll just be honest with you.
Chris McMonigle (0:30)
Yeah.
Craig Carton (0:30)
And I answered it this way. You tell me if you think I'm right, because I'm not a giant fan, obviously. I said, there's a buzz around Harbaugh, a hundred percent tangible viable buzz that Harbaugh is turning things around here.
I think there's a cautious optimism for the Giants and their 3-1-1 start. Yeah. Because they're underdogged against the Saints. The Texans might turn things around pretty quickly here, and become a problem in a couple of weeks. And the schedule after the buy, not the easiest schedule in the league. Fair?
Chris McMonigle (1:04)
Yes.
SPEAKER_3 (1:05)
So I think I was very honest.
Chris McMonigle (1:07)
I think there's buzz around the team changing into at least a competitive football team, but there is healthy skepticism about what this particular team can actually do. There's a lot of buzz, the franchise is in good footing, in the right direction, and this team is going to be competitive, but how good truly. Yeah.
SPEAKER_4 (1:23)
And I think that's being honest.
SPEAKER_3 (1:24)
Yes.
Chris McMonigle (1:25)
Agreed.
Craig Carton (1:25)
I don't think any giant fans right now are planning to go to LA in February for the Super Bowl.
SPEAKER_3 (1:30)
No, of course not.
Craig Carton (1:30)
But I do think, because the Eagles have taken a step back, the Cowboys' defense is all banged up.
SPEAKER_4 (1:35)
Big part of it too.
Craig Carton (1:36)
You know, Utah obviously. I think the reality of we can start realistically dreaming about having a playoff game.
SPEAKER_3 (1:47)
Yeah.
Craig Carton (1:47)
Now obviously, as we've said, it's going to be much easier to get into the playoffs by winning the division than in any other way.
SPEAKER_4 (1:55)
Yeah.
Craig Carton (1:55)
And wouldn't it be nice for the second time in 20 years for there to be a home playoff game at MetLife Stadium? But I think that's pretty much dead on where you're feeling good, you love your coach, you like your team.
Chris McMonigle (2:10)
Yeah.
Craig Carton (2:10)
And because of other things around you, totally out of the Giants' control. Health of other teams, your bad play, injury.
Chris McMonigle (2:18)
And the injuries to the Giants, because right now, if Jackson Dart were healthy, there would be a immense buzz.
Craig Carton (2:24)
You'd think that you are a lock for a home playoff game.
Chris McMonigle (2:26)
Yes.
Craig Carton (2:27)
I agree.
SPEAKER_3 (2:27)
Yes. I'm with you on that.
Chris McMonigle (2:29)
But because of Jamis...
SPEAKER_4 (2:30)
And that's not being like pie in the sky, like crazy.
Chris McMonigle (2:32)
And because of Jamis, there's just a healthy, you know, a healthy level of, you know, pessimism, optimism.
Craig Carton (2:39)
I think a lot of Giants fans are waiting for the shoe to drop when he has the five interception game.
Chris McMonigle (2:44)
I think we're waiting for that role. So like, let's really see what happens when they step up in legitimate competition.
Craig Carton (2:49)
Yes.
Chris McMonigle (2:49)
Like, let's see when they play a legitimately good football team, even if that... Right now, we wouldn't call the Eagles that. Let's go beat the Eagles and then you will have a real conversation about this division and feeling good about it. But yeah, no.
Big time feeling good about the coach. Yeah. Also won a couple of games we feel like we would have lost as Giants fans in the last couple of years. I think the idea that they won these games or at least didn't lose the last one, I think there's a real expectation of, hey, this team doesn't find a way to win these games. They lose all three of these games and things are changing.
Craig Carton (3:20)
Well, let me ask you this question. Because this was an interesting back and forth from somebody I was talking to that's not a New Yorker or a Giant fan.
