Coming up on 4 o'clock, Carton Show, Big Mac.
Tomorrow, of course, a lot of Jets talk, a lot of Giants talkers are ready for a couple of 1 o'clock games on Sunday. Jets trying to get to 2 and 3 against the Browns. New York Giants trying to get to 4 and 1 against Washington. But right now, it's an autopsy of another failed Yankee season.
Evan Roberts (0:19)
Yeah, another autopsy of another failed Yankee season. I like that. It's an autopsy.
Craig Carton (0:24)
It's an autopsy.
Evan Roberts (0:24)
Because we're trying to figure out what happened to them.
Craig Carton (0:27)
Yeah, he's right.
Evan Roberts (0:29)
I don't think it's very easy. I think there's a lot of tough questions.
Craig Carton (0:32)
Because it's not just one glaring weakness. You can't say, oh, the starting pitching sucks, period, stop.
Evan Roberts (0:36)
No, starting pitching is great.
Craig Carton (0:37)
You can't say, oh, the bullpen cost them. Bullpen is great. I think the bullpen gave up but a hit or two in the whole series.
Evan Roberts (0:41)
Offensive defense.
And the organization, look, they've done a really good job with developing pitching and finding ways to like fix guys. Like, again, for all the problems they have offensively, and they definitely have had some, a lot of them. But, like, Paul Blackburn was bouncing around, nobody could make it work with him. They turned him into a high leverage reliever. Like, there's a lot of different guys who they fixed pitching-wise and bullpen-wise, starting pitching-wise. But it feels like they have a good feel on the pitching department with Matt Blake. But offensively, they just haven't figured out how to get the best out of their guys.
Craig Carton (1:16)
Let's do this real fast. Is next year's starting first baseman currently on the roster?
Evan Roberts (1:21)
Yes.
Craig Carton (1:21)
What's his name?
Evan Roberts (1:25)
Garcia Ben Rice. It's going to be like a combo of the two of them, I think.
Craig Carton (1:28)
That's fine. Is next year's starting second baseman on the roster?
Evan Roberts (1:35)
Possibly Anthony Volpe.
Craig Carton (1:36)
That's a no. Is next year's starting shortstop on the roster?
Evan Roberts (1:39)
Yes.
Craig Carton (1:40)
Lombard, yes. Is next year's third baseman currently on the roster?
Evan Roberts (1:43)
Better not be, no.
Craig Carton (1:44)
Okay, no. So we need a second baseman or third baseman? Yeah. Is next year's starting right fielder on the roster?
Evan Roberts (1:49)
Yes.
Craig Carton (1:50)
And Aaron Judge.
Evan Roberts (1:50)
I think so.
Craig Carton (1:51)
Is next year starting center fielder on the roster?
Chris McMonigle (1:53)
Yes.
Craig Carton (1:53)
Spencer Jones?
Chris McMonigle (1:54)
I believe so.
Craig Carton (1:55)
Is next year starting left fielder on the roster?
Chris McMonigle (1:56)
Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes.
Craig Carton (1:58)
Is next year starting catcher on the lineup?
Evan Roberts (2:00)
Yes.
Craig Carton (2:01)
That's going to be Wells again.
Evan Roberts (2:02)
Yes.
Chris McMonigle (2:02)
Okay.
Evan Roberts (2:02)
They have to go out and get a legitimate right handed back to compliment them, though.
Craig Carton (2:06)
Okay. Is.
Next year's Closer on the lineup.
Evan Roberts (2:12)
On yesterday's line up.
Craig Carton (2:13)
Is next year's closure currently on the Yankees roster, pardon me.
Evan Roberts (2:20)
Because he's a free agent.
Craig Carton (2:21)
Right.
Evan Roberts (2:22)
Okay.
Craig Carton (2:22)
So the answer is no.
Evan Roberts (2:23)
So is he on the free, is he on the roster? Are we considering?
Craig Carton (2:26)
Is Bednar coming back to be the closer?
Evan Roberts (2:28)
That's what I'm saying. Are you considering Bednar on the roster right now?
Craig Carton (2:32)
Because technically he's not.
Chris McMonigle (2:33)
Right?
Craig Carton (2:33)
He's a free agent. Yes.
Evan Roberts (2:35)
Okay, that's what I'm saying.
Craig Carton (2:35)
December 1st, he becomes a free agent.
Chris McMonigle (2:37)
Yeah. Okay.
Evan Roberts (2:38)
But yeah, so I think he comes back to the roster.
Craig Carton (2:40)
All right, so wholesale change is not needed.
Evan Roberts (2:42)
No.
Craig Carton (2:43)
Okay. Second baseman, it's Volpi or somebody.
Evan Roberts (2:46)
Yep.
Craig Carton (2:47)
Third base, wide open.
Evan Roberts (2:48)
Got to get somebody. Right?
Craig Carton (2:50)
Catcher, you need a backup for Wells.
Evan Roberts (2:52)
Okay. They don't need another superstar.
Craig Carton (2:55)
This is not a team that...
Evan Roberts (2:56)
Now, DH is another one. Can you...
Craig Carton (2:58)
Is the DH currently on the roster?
Evan Roberts (3:00)
Unfortunately, yeah.
Chris McMonigle (3:00)
Kind of has to be, right? You have no choice.
