Hour 2: Yankee fans should be "livid" and not indifferent after sweep
The Carton Show with Craig Carton & Chris McMonigle
October 8, 2026
They analyze the New York Yankees' collapse and sweep by the Tampa Bay Rays, calling the lineup decisions regarding Trent Grisham "malpractice." The discussion turns to whether a Knicks championship makes the baseball failure more tolerable or if the organization needs a complete culture change.

We were just talking to the guys off the air about how bad the post-game show was. I know you didn't get to see it, or maybe you did. You probably didn't. You'd go get them at the time. And everyone's like, Oh, Pedro Martinez is so funny. He's not.
And I get the, duh, Yankees lose. I get it. I'm down with it. It was funny when Ortiz first did it last year. You know, with Derrick there, and obviously, they were out there. And it's cute. I get it. It's fun. It's like, you know, the other team playing New York, New York in the locker room. I get it. You're mocking us. We have to be big boys and be thick-skinned. That comes with the territory. And I'm good with it. It's not even that, you know, it's not a reverend anymore. It's what you do. I'm fine with it.
But whoever thought that Pedro Martinez and Jimmy Rollins together was good?
Craig Carton (0:47)
Not good.
Chris McMonigle (0:48)
No, not good. The opposite of good.
Craig Carton (0:50)
What's the opposite of good?
Chris McMonigle (0:52)
Not good?
Craig Carton (0:53)
Not good.
Chris McMonigle (0:53)
It's not even bad. It's really bad.
Craig Carton (0:57)
Oh, wretched.
Chris McMonigle (0:58)
Wretched.
Craig Carton (0:59)
Oh, that's a good one. How about that?
Chris McMonigle (1:01)
Can you spell it, though?
Craig Carton (1:02)
No.
Chris McMonigle (1:03)
I can't use that again.
Craig Carton (1:04)
I can't either.
Chris McMonigle (1:05)
So I can't use it either.
Craig Carton (1:07)
Anyhow, wretched.
Chris McMonigle (1:08)
I gave all the guys some of my buddy Fun Cow's Yeah, there's a mistake to say goodbye right before we were going on air. Jaw Ripper Jerky.
Craig Carton (1:14)
You ain't is a Jaw Ripper. It's delicious. It's got like a black pepper.
SPEAKER_3 (1:17)
Is it good, though?
Chris McMonigle (1:18)
But it's not real. Ah, it's like a tough jerky.
SPEAKER_3 (1:20)
Yeah, very tough.
Chris McMonigle (1:20)
That's a man's jerky right there, buddy.
Craig Carton (1:22)
I had to like swallow a chunk of it because I couldn't. I didn't have enough time to chew it and do the show, so I had to like just swallow a big chunk. Smells good, though. It's delicious.
Chris McMonigle (1:30)
Yeah. All right. Sorry, Pete, I got one for you, too. So come on in and grab that.
Craig Carton (1:34)
Anyway, it'll take me 45 minutes to eat this little piece.
Chris McMonigle (1:36)
That's a good ride home right there.
Craig Carton (1:38)
That's a good ride home.
Chris McMonigle (1:40)
What's that guy in the suburban doing? Arr, arr, arr.
SPEAKER_4 (1:42)
That's good stress reliever, too.
Chris McMonigle (1:45)
You wake up like you did like three lines of Coke off a stripper's ass in the morning, and you're like, why did my jaw kill him?
Craig Carton (1:50)
Oh, I know.
Chris McMonigle (1:51)
And your wife's like, honey, what were you doing last night? Go get him or go get her? I swear to God, it was a Yankee Stadium.
You know, the strip club in the Bronx, near Yankee Stadium, not right there, but somewhat close to Yankee Stadium.
Craig Carton (2:03)
Where?
Chris McMonigle (2:03)
Sells more Johnny Walker Red than any bar in America.
Craig Carton (2:06)
Is that true?
SPEAKER_3 (2:06)
Uh-huh.
Chris McMonigle (2:07)
Yep.
It's the number one provider of Johnny Walker Red, specifically, in the country. A Bronx strip house.
SPEAKER_3 (2:15)
Yeah.
Chris McMonigle (2:16)
Interesting.
SPEAKER_3 (2:17)
I don't know why.
Chris McMonigle (2:18)
Here's Dan in Middlefield, Connecticut. I'm the fan as we deal with the day after another Yankee demise. What do you got today for us, Danny?
SPEAKER_3 (2:27)
Hey, guys. How are you? Good. Hey, so, you know, people can say that they want to get rid of Boone, and that's all well and great. But Brian Cashman has been General Manager of the Yankees for 23% of the team's entire existence. Wow.
At a certain point, you need fresh ideas. The Boston Red Sox, and I hate to do this, but between 4 and 18, they had multiple GMs and they won multiple championships. Hal Steinbrenner came back to your point about how he's just confident and comfortable with how Cashman does things. Hal is a coward for not wanting to try and branch out and try something different.
Craig Carton (3:03)
They need new ideas.
Chris McMonigle (3:04)
Well, he's not a coward for building a team that has a winning record every year and goes to the postseason every year. Like, that does count.
SPEAKER_3 (3:10)
But you know how it's gonna end up. I know, but it does count for something.
