So Draymond Green has rung in. He said it was disappointing spurs players didn't shake the Knicks hand after the loss. And he said, quote, the reason it was disappointing when you go mono a mono, toe to toe, blow for blow with the team and they get the better of you. Those that become champions, look them in their eyes and say, respect, congratulations, well deserved. And then you go to the locker room. That's what those become champions do. When guys just leave the court and can't face me and AV., one of our assistant coaches, we always say, look your killer in the face. Look your killer in the face. You've got to look them in the face. By the way, if you leave the court, I just beat you. I actually know that I own you forever because you couldn't even look me in the face. And he did that on his podcast today. And that's very well said. This is not a Nick fan, Draymond Green. And it was just such a bad look for one Binyama to spin and walk away. I mean, even if you want to go down the line, and sometimes I think that's a little much. They can do it in hockey. After they're beating each other's brains in. They do it in hockey after the playoff series. You can't shake Jalen Brunson's hand. You can't shake the coach of the Knicks hand. No class. I'm sorry. I came into this really admiring Victor one Binyama from once he came and the player that he's become, and how dominant he could become. I don't have the same respect that I had before. I just don't. How could you? He did everything to erase that respect.
Like at the end of his press conference, he said something like that's it. I'll probably never see you all again. Really? You're going to say that to the media? Well, if you never see them all again, then you're never getting back to the NBA finals, are you Victor? But walking, listen, everybody's nasty to the media because that's a game. Everybody seems that the media is the enemy. But the people that just vanquished you, they don't deserve congratulations. There wasn't a good look for Tom Brady when he did it. There's not a good look for Victor one Binyama. He's always such a fierce competitor.
He didn't want to congratulate them. Well, then you're a sore loser. That's what they said when we were kids. I thought Draymond Green said the best. They just took it to you. Look them in the eye and say, good job. But now that you didn't say good job, now that you couldn't look them in the eye, they do own you forever, don't they? Because they know you're a punk and they know that you don't have the class. I didn't even go in the locker room afterward. I've been in World Series situations where the manager of a team goes into the victorious locker room and congratulates, because you don't get to do that in baseball. Everybody's jumping around, the players are in the dugout, walking out the field. It's not the time to do it. But a lot of players and the manager, they make their way over to the other locker room and they congratulate them for defeating them. Victor Wembenyama couldn't see it within himself to do that? Awful look. Awful look. He did not help his reputation at all. Now, why has this Nick Championship meant so much to so many? And I said it at the end of last week and I truly believe it. There are very few things in life that bring together generations, like mothers and fathers and sons and daughters.
They probably like different music. They probably like different shows.
There's a real separation there because of the age difference. What's hip for you is not hip for them. What's hip for them is far from hip for you. And that's a constant struggle and I've learned that since I've had kids, there's just different things that they like that I don't see the value in it and things that I like that they don't see the value in it. But sports is the one thread line that is the uniter where your 85 year old grandpa, your 21 years old, he's loved the Knicks his entire life. You could talk to him about the Knicks. You both love them. But your dad, he might like Bruce Springsteen and you might like Asap Rocky. But you both like the Knicks. It's the one common thread. How many things in life are like that?
