No Michael Kay.

**Jake Asman** (0:42)
That's right. No Michael Kay or no Don La Greca either. It's been Alan and Peter this week. Hope Don's having a great vacation.
800-919-3776 Jake Asman in for Michael. He's back tomorrow ahead of the Yankees and the Dodgers. Tomorrow I'm in for Bart and Carlin. Ty and I are hosting 10 to 1 And then Saturday I'm 9 to noon, I believe, which is normally Dan Gross's time slot. So I'm on the radio today, tomorrow, Saturday, and I'm in for Kay Monday through Thursday next week. So if the Yankees have a rough weekend against the Dodgers, we don't need the Michael Kay Show Reddit. Shout out to you guys. I read you every day. You're awesome. We don't need the Michael Kay Show Reddit saying, oh, Kay is ducking the smoke because the Dodgers beat up on the Yankees this weekend. It's always been scheduled to be off the whole time. But I will beat up on the Yankees if they look terrible against the Dodgers. That is for sure. Need the Yankees to come out of the break and keep the good vibes rolling. Build on what they did in that final game against Tampa and then the three games last weekend against the Washington Nationals. 800.919.3776. More of your calls coming up, but I've been mentioning this. So Derrick Jeter was a guest on Adam Shine's radio show on Mad Dog Sports Radio.
And Shine asked him about Anthony Volpe. And listen to this answer from Jeter on Volpe. And then you tell me if you're thinking the same thing. Do you hear this?

**Derek Jeter** (2:03)
The Yankees are very high on Anthony. Personally, I don't know him that well. We've had a couple of conversations. I don't know him well. But yeah, I think they're banking on a big upside. And, you know, hopefully he can put it together here. They can put it together soon. You know, you go back to the World Series a few years ago. You played great in the postseason that year. So you want to get back to that point. But it's tough, man. It is tough to go through growing pains at the Major League level for a player. I mean, we've all been there. You know what I mean? And every mistake is magnified. Well, hopefully he can turn it around.

**Jake Asman** (2:32)
Derek Jeter should have a relationship with Anthony Volpe, no?
He idolizes Jeter. If anyone can help him, it would be Jeter. That's I don't know if that's more on Volpe or the Yankees. There should be some sort of relationship there. The Yankees should set up some sort of, you know, communication with those two. It may be too little too late. I mean, I think the media market has eaten Anthony Volpe alive. I think he's regressed from the player we thought he even could be a few years ago. This is tough. And it's unfortunate because he's from here and he wanted to be the Yankees shortstop and he loves Jeter. But he's got no relationship with Jeter? Honestly, if I were Anthony Volpe, I'd call him.
I'd call him. I'd pick his brain. It can't hurt. I don't think it's going to make Anthony Volpe go from a 220-hitter to a 280-hitter or raise his OPS from 660 to 800 But it can't hurt.
Again, I think the Yankees should have more of their all-time greats around their team. It's good to have Pettit and an advisory role. He's on the staff a little bit. But I think that stuff matters, man. And the problem is the Yankees haven't won in a long time. Kids today growing up, they don't remember Derek Jeter. It's sad. I was talking to our interns after the show the other day. They were born in 2005 and 2006 Our college interns here at Espn New York were born in 5 and 6 That made me feel old. I see Harvey's nodding his head. I mean, again, the Yankees have not won in 17 years. That was their last title. And I think they should have some of the Yankee greats around the team or on the coaching staff to instill the Yankee identity and the culture of winning. There's been not enough winning to instill. The regular season doesn't matter. That's not what the Yankees are built on. One championship since 2000 is not good enough. One World Series appearance since their last win in 9 is not good enough. Getting in as a wild card is not some accomplishment. Playoffs are a crap shoot though, Jake. No, that's what Brian Cashman has convinced Hal Steinbrenner of the playoffs are. Build the team just to get in and then we'll take our chances. Again, that is not true. The Astros built the team that got to the ALCS seven years in a row in the World Series four times. Wasn't all cheating. They only got caught for 2017 The Dodgers have built the team that's been in the World Series multiple times and has won obviously three titles, if you want to count the COVID year. They won the last two that are legitimate. They went to the World Series in 2017 and 2018 The Yankees have been once since 2009 And it counts, but we all know what happened. They played the American League Central. They get credit for it, but we also could add nuance and context to it. They beat up on bad teams and got to the World Series. That happened. We watched it. And I'm a Yankee fan telling you this, but I'm going to keep it a buck. I'm going to keep it real.
