Breaking news here, Jackson Dart's injury looks worse than what they originally thought last night.
The New York Giants have decided to give you zero information, but let's hear from the head coach. So you hear from the horse's mouth. This is John Harbaugh opening up the press conference, being asked about the status of Jackson Dart. Go ahead, guys.
Chris McMonigle (0:20)
Yeah, thanks. I'm not sure exactly what news or how anything's been stated, but right now, the evaluations are ongoing.
We haven't got any final decisions yet. We've learned a lot more. I wouldn't really want to share too much until decisions get made. That takes more than one person, takes everybody involved. So when we know what direction we're going to have to go or go or whatever it might be, we'll announce that, but we don't have that yet. So I don't want to get out over our skis on that. I can't really respond to every report that people make. We got to kind of work on our own timeline here.
Craig Carton (1:02)
So I was basically telling you I'm aware of the report that Adam Schefter and others, Jordan Schultz and others put out. And obviously he's acknowledging the report's accurate because they're acknowledging that they've now got some decisions to make that maybe last night they didn't think they had to make. And it's a run of the mill sprain MCL three, four or five weeks and he's going to be back. What he's telling you without telling you is that we got new information and we're not sure how to process that just yet. And we want to make sure everybody's on board with that decision prior to announcing it. But at the end of the day, he could have come out and said, yes, the report's accurate. The MRI revealed more damage than we thought. And then say all the other stuff. So in any event, that's directly from John Harbaugh. That's what's going on right now.
And we'll talk to Pat Leonard at some point.
When Pat's available, you can call him when you want to call him.
Chris McMonigle (1:53)
I mean, just from listening to that, they haven't come to the inevitable conclusion of season-ending surgery. I mean, I don't know how you don't... I think they have. Yeah, I mean, just listening to that, it sounds like he's gone for the year.
Craig Carton (2:07)
And by the way, this involves Jackson Dart, it involves his agent, it involves the trainer, the doctor, the coach, the GM, the owner, who's going to do the surgery.
There are 50 other questions come up, but the only thing that matters right now is that Jackson Dart's injury is worse than what we thought last night, and it seems maybe not inevitable, but it seems leaning in the direction that Jackson Dart is done for the year. That's not 100%, but it certainly feels like it's going in that direction.
Chris McMonigle (2:38)
This is as big a gut punch. I mean, the expectation.
Craig Carton (2:42)
Let me go quickly out to Giants Camp now, and Pat Leonard joins us.
Talking Ball Podcast in the Daily News. Pat, it's The Carton Show with Big Mac. How are you today, buddy?
Pat Leonard (2:54)
What's going on, guys? It's really weird. Last time I was in Chicago O'Hare Airport, I'm connecting on the way back from LA.
Last time I was here, I was grabbing a quick sandwich before getting on the plane and getting text that Brian Dable was fired. And now here I am in O'Hare, ready to connect back to Newark, and we're getting reports of Jackson Dart's done for the year. I got to stay out of Chicago.
Craig Carton (3:13)
Yeah, pretty much. But Chicago could learn something from Jackson Dart being a man unlike their quarterback, who got wheeled off the field. He walked off the field and can you confirm the reports that are out there that what they found in the MRI was worse than what they thought? And we are leaning towards him being done for the year?
Pat Leonard (3:32)
I don't know specifically that he is definitely out for the year.
It is valid though that the follow up tests did show potentially something more serious. John Harbaugh just spoke to us and would not divulge if that means he is out for the year. He said that they are still in the process of ongoing evaluations of what these further test results mean. But absolutely Craig, initially you expected Dart was going to miss at least around a month with let's say the least severe version of this injury. And so the fact that it is more severe, although we don't know the exact details, to me reflects that you're going to be missing them at least for the bulk of the season, if not more.
