Welcome back to the show, everybody. Hour two of our two hour radio program. We're inching closer to football.
The season actually starts tonight. Seahawks against the Patriots. That game will be on NBC.
Then all eyes will be on the Giants and the Cowboys on Sunday night. And before that, Sunday afternoon, the Jets and the Titans. Now, I've said it before. That's a really, really big game. I'm not going to say it's a must win because I don't give you those silly little hot takes here that you could throw back at me later on. That's that's just ridiculous because you can lose that game and then you could win the next six games and everybody forgets that you lost to the Titans. But I will tell you what, it's a pretty big game for jet fans. It's a really, really big game for the psyche of jet fans and also the Jets as well. They're one and a half point underdogs going into Tennessee. They're facing the coach that was fired in Robert Sala. The Titans are not a great team. That's a game that the Jets are exponentially better than they were last year. They should be able to win that game. So a lot of eyes will be on that game. I'm really intrigued by how they come out and play. You're hearing all good things. Geno Smith is obviously a much better quarterback than anything that they had last year. We'll see how he plays. We'll see what he does. And we'll see how they do. But it's interesting. Everybody wants to jump on people and on players when they just give their honest opinion. Garrett Wilson has not talked that much to the media. He comes out and he said that the players are very realistic. And my question is that those people that jump on them, first of all, I don't think the playoffs are realistic for the Jets. I just don't. I don't think they play in a great division.
There's two good teams in that division.
So there's two free wins there for the Jets against the Dolphins.
I think the Bills are good. Obviously, the Patriots are good. But it's not like the West Division and the NFC, which is just otherworldly unbelievable. So, there's some wins on the table for the Jets. So, for Garrett Wilson to say it, what do you want a player to stay? If people say, well, you think you can make the playoffs, he goes, no, I don't. Can you imagine the outcry that there would be?
I mean, it would be unbelievable.
So, he said, I think the playoffs are realistic. Now, I think he's wrong, but I don't begrudge him saying that. In fact, I'd be shocked if he didn't say it. What do you want a player to say? This is exactly what he should say. Now, whether or not the Jets have a much better season than they had last year, whether or not Aaron Glenn gets to keep his job, it could happen in the first seven games of the season. First seven weeks of the season, the Jets are at Tennessee, they play Cleveland, and they play Miami. I'm not saying must wins, but don't you think that you have to pick up those three wins there? The Jets have kind of a forgiving schedule, and the beginning of it right there makes you wonder, can they get off to a decent start? But if they win only two of those three, or one of those three, are you staring at one in six? And at that point, you have an owner that has already fired a coach in mid-season. It didn't work out. Really interesting story in The Athletic, though. Zach Rosenblack wrote it yesterday about, you know, Woody Johnson just didn't like Robert Sala personally. Just wanted him out, had no use for him whatsoever. So it seems like Woody Johnson does like Aaron Glenn, but is he gonna stay with Aaron Glenn with another bad season? And for the Jets, you know, Geno Smith is an older quarterback. He's not your quarterback of the future. He could be your quarterback this year and next year, but the Jets are looking to get a franchise quarterback. In all likelihood, it's not Cade Clubnick, who's going to be their backup quarterback. They're going to have to pick one of the quarterbacks coming out of the Collins season for the draft. And the Jets have three first round draft picks. So does it behoove the Jets to go 2-15? Yeah, it does. But that means that Aaron Glenn's not coaching that quarterback.
