Welcome back to the show everybody. Hope you're having a great day and staying as cool as you possibly can. It's going to get even hotter. Tomorrow is going to be like 100 and then Thursday is going to be 101 I keep hearing the feel like temperature 107, which I never understood. If it feels like that's the temperature. I don't care what the thermometer says. If it feels like 107, you know what? It's 107 Not that hard to understand. So get your bets in. I don't know if FanDuel is taking action on it, but get your bets in on which one of the ESPN staff is going to have heat stroke at the beach bash. Come on by. It's Thursday. I'd love to see all of you. If it's the last thing I see, I'll embrace you. I really will. So the former hitting coach of the Mets, Eric Chavez, has his own podcast. He came out and said that the Mets have coddled Juan Soto. They let him get away with things that other people would not, that Soto was miserable the first two months of the season last year, and he had buyers remorse. Again, these are Chavez's comments. I think it was Mike Puma of the New York Post who asked Juan Soto about it. And I appreciate his honesty, if not his forthrightness. So he just said to Mike Puma, I'm not going to talk about that. Which to me is more than a task and admission that it's true. Why would I mean if Juan Soto was a liar, which he's not, he could have said, I was thrilled from the very first day I got here. I never sat on a couch by the bed. He could have said all of that. And his answer to the question was, I'm not going to discuss that. Which is an admission that what Chavez is saying is true. And Chavez has taken shots at David Stearns. Chavez doesn't need the job. He's made a lot of money in his career. He also spoke about David Stearns asking him to take a pay cut. And then, you know, we all know that Anton Richardson, the Mets got outbid by the Atlanta Braves for Anton Richardson. Here's what I don't get.
The Mets' superpower is Steve Cohen's money. Why are you trying to save Nichols by cutting the pay check of the hidden coach and not paying the first base coach who turned Juan Soto into the National League stolen base leader, not paying him and having the Braves, not exactly a franchise like the Dodgers or the Yankees or the Mets outbid you for Anton Richardson? Why is he drawing this line in spending Steve Cohen's money? Do you think that those are the marching orders that Steve Cohen has given David Stearns? I want you to save me Nichols and Dimes so that I could spend $765 million on Juan Soto. I mean, that's ashtray money for Steve Cohen. So, when he has these weekly sit downs at Citi Field, that's one of the things that have to be asked of David Stearns. Why are you saving Nichols and Dimes? Why are you being a penny wise and dollar foolish? I don't get it.
You don't think your team would be better if you had Anton Richardson as the first base coach? Again, not exponentially better, but you changed everybody in the coaching staff and you decided not to change the manager, which doesn't make any sense at all. Why would you take the manager's support system away? And you let the bench coach from last year, John Gibbons, who could have easily have just slid right into the manager's chair when you got rid of Mendy, you let him go too.
You're going to put all of the blame on an 83 and 79 season where the Mets didn't make the playoffs last year on those guys? And again, if you didn't like Chavez as a hitting coach, then fire him. But instead you ask him to take a pay cut?
