Welcome back to the show. We always love Thursday. At this time, we get a chance to talk to Chris Simms and Chris Simms is brought to you by Super Bowl 61 and he joins us now on the show. Chris, how you doing?
Chris Simms (0:54)
I'm doing good, Michael. What's up, man? How you doing?
Michael Kay (0:56)
All good here.
Were you surprised at how well the Giants played against the Cowboys? And was that more Giants playing well or the Cowboys not playing well?
Chris Simms (1:06)
Well, I think there's a little bit of both.
I guess the one thing I would say, I was just surprised at how efficient it was for being the first game. I was surprised by a lot of offenses, how efficient they were for being the first game. I mean, we're in a league where usually the defense has the advantage early in the year, and that just wasn't the case this past Sunday. But I just loved the game plan of the Giants. I mean, one, hey, the talent's better. You know that. They got an offensive line that can actually move people out of the way now and open up holes and protect the quarterback. The concoction of Matt Nagy, Greg Roman, and Brian Callahan working on the offense, I think that's special. I think they can actually all pick each other up in spots where I would go, I don't like this about his offense, but his offense has this, so I like that.
So it was smart game planning, that was based around physicality, chewing up the clock, so Dak Prescott and that offense can't be explosive and keeps them at a rhythm that way. And then, yeah, a little bit of Dallas doing some things and a new scheme on the defensive side of the ball, where you're like, how many times are they going to let Jackson Dark throw the ball into the flat, but nobody there, right? There was some things there that certainly you can blame Dallas hustle, how hard they played, but all in all, I think it was really positive with the Giants. Offense was good, and we know the defense is not perfect, and we're all going to question the secondary a little bit, but damn it did a good job, and that pass rush is real. I mean, to me, Abdul Carter is on the verge of being a superstar here in the NFL. Brian Burns is already that, but Abdul Carter, when I watch back the film, he really pops. He's a special player.
Michael Kay (2:45)
I was really impressed, Chris, by how poised Jackson Dark is. You mentioned the three-headed offensive monster that they have, calling plays and getting them ready, but this is the second season, and it's the second system that he's in, and he looked really, really comfortable in it.
Chris Simms (3:02)
No doubt about it. He's special that way. I mean, really, just you and me talking, do you remember really him ever being flustered last year, even as a rookie? I think he's got a special demeanor about him that, like we talked about, I think, a little last week, he's got the cockiness to go, hey, I'm going to show you, yeah, this is New York, I love it, and I'm going to go out here and put on a show and have a cool touchdown dance when I get in there. But yet, he still does it in a way to where you go, okay, he's not losing himself, he's very under control all the time, and his movement is really good, and like what I told you last week, he doesn't misthrows.
He might not throw lasers around the field like a Mahomes or a Josh Allen at times, but damn, he's a good thrower, and he hits everything he's supposed to hit, and takes advantage of just about all that the offense delivers to him on a week to week basis.
