Welcome back to the show, everybody. The Giants win 28 to 10, the Jets win 23, 28 to 20, the Giants win, the Jets win 23 to 10 Both teams needed to get up on a good start after awful seasons, not just seasons, but decades. Think about it, both of these teams have been bad for over a decade.
Over a decade. Jets can't get out of their own way. Forget about playoffs, they can't get over 500 So you can't go to Tennessee and lose to the Titans, and they didn't. They didn't. And the Giants always seem to lose to the Cowboys, especially on Primetime. And they won. 28 to 20 So a great start for both teams. And it was a victory weekend in New York, except obviously for the Mets, because somebody had to lose the Subway Series. The Yankees took two out of three. The two teams split. They split six games this year. So the Mets took two out of three at City Field, and the Yankees took two out of three at Yankee Stadium. So while the Yankees are taking two out of three, the Rays are sweeping the Astros. So we went into the weekend looking at the Yankees with a three-game deficit, with 16 games left to go. And despite winning a series, the Yankees now have a four-game deficit in the loss column, with 13 games left to go.
So the Yankees are on their last regular-season road trip right now. I'm coming to you live from Minnesota. So they're three games in Minneapolis, Thursday's an off day, three games in Arizona against the Diamondbacks, a team that's fighting the Padres for the third wild card spot. And the twins are still on the periphery, but they still have dreams. Then the Yankees come home, and they have a four-game series against Tampa Bay. So when they come home from Arizona, they have Monday as an off day, then Tuesday as a day-night doubleheader, and then Wednesday and Thursday, and then they'll finish the season with three games against the Baltimore Orioles. Now the Orioles will probably be out of it by then. You know, they had a rough weekend against Toronto. Toronto's right there for that third wild card spot. So let's just make it nice and easy for everybody. The Yankees have four games to make up on Tampa Bay and 13 Thirteen left. And here's the problem. So Greg Goudas is a great listener to the show, and he sent me this breakdown, which really simplifies everything.
So the Rays, over there, they also have 13 games remaining. If they go seven and six, and then they win just one game in next week's four-game series against the Yankees. One game. So that means the Yankees would have taken three out of four. It's awfully hard to sweep a four-game series. And believe me, the Rays are legitimate. They're not going to roll over into Yankee Stadium and get butts kicked and get swept in a four-game series. But let's say, you know, we hold out hope that it can happen. Four-game series. And right now, when you're four games out, you have to look at, okay, we've got to take four games. But if they manage to win one of those four games, the Yankees would have to go undefeated in every other remaining game to beat them. Undefeated.
I mean, the Yankees have to go 12 and 1 if the Rays go 7 and 6
The odds are not in their favor. Now, the odds come completely, they become completely discombobulated if the Yankees sweep the four game series. Because then you could change the calculus just a little bit. And maybe it then comes down to the last three games against the Orioles at the stadium. I believe that the Rays have three games against the Phillies to finish off the season, which will not be easy. So, and there's also part of this argument that worries me a little bit.
