BT, if you follow him on Twitter, he is killing. Brian Cashman, he wants to move badly as do Yankee fans. Four hours, a little less than four hours now till the deadline. So we'll talk with him at 2.3 about that. There was a trade that just broke during the break there. So a little breaking news here on the Kay Show presented by Boost Mobile. The Tampa Bay Rays are acquiring catcher Liam Hicks in a trade with the Miami Marlins. So think about this. Another catcher gets dealt to a team in the Yankee Division. The Rays and the Red Sox both have new catchers who blindfolded or better than Austin Wells or Ali Sanchez.
Hicks is having a nice season for the Marlins too. He's a guy who's under team control through 2031 He's hitting 282 this season, 62 runs batted in, 14 home runs, 124 plus OPS, or OPS plus as you should say at 124, almost 800 OPS from a catcher.
That's a really good move by the Tampa Bay Rays.
We don't have the full return on what they gave up, but man. The Yankees call Colorado one more time. Hunter Goodman, you there? Jake, though, asked for Lombard, and?
Are we sure George Lombard's untouchable? I heard the same things about Anthony Volpe. I heard the same things about Clint Frazier, Miguel Andujar. Sometimes you just have to go for it, man. And I'm not saying I would necessarily do that, but the Yankees have to come away with an improvement at catcher. Tyler Stevenson from the Reds, I guess, is still a possibility, but the catching options, I don't know how many more are truly out there. Kyle Higashioka is a name we know because he played for the Yankees. He's better than Austin Wells, but he's not having a great year. Let's see what they do. They got till 6 p.m. to do it. And right now, there's a lot of Yankee fans, very antsy and rightfully so, on what more moves they could possibly make.
As far as the Mets, their fire sale, we're just waiting for the latest. They've traded a couple of relievers so far, Peralta was the big deal yesterday. The Mets, for whatever reason, thought it was a good idea to thank them for a service. But they're still going to trade away, I'm sure, a lot of guys who are on their team. And the Mets are off today, they'll be back tomorrow. Yankees actually played tonight. The weather in New York is awful. Been raining all day, but it's supposed to clear up. My first pitch later, Cam Schlitler goes for the Yankees against the Cardinals, the Yankees start a new series against them. Back to the phones we go. Yeah, hi, Jay. Thanks for taking my call.
I'm going to tell you that I don't agree with anybody that you had on your show about the Yankee trade. I think it's an excellent trade if you need a first baseman and a left-handed batter. What the Yankees are getting is a part-time player who only could hit right-handed pitching. And if you look at the last maybe 10, 11, 12 games that the Yankees played, I think they faced 10 lefties. So and the guy is only patting 218 with lefties, plus there's a logjam at first base.

Yeah, but Frank, you have to admit, if he's only going to platoon, so it means he's going to play against righties, you don't normally face that many lefties. That was an anomaly. He's going to be in the lineup 80% of the time, you face a right-hander compared to a left-handed starting pitcher.
