Jake Asbit sitting in for Michael. One hour to go here on a Thursday. And joining me in studio right now is a guy who threw out the first pitch at Yankee Stadium yesterday. If you're a Yankee fan, I'm sure you've seen his content appear on the Yes Network. He actually used to work behind the scenes, got furloughed by the Yankees during COVID, and now is not only working for the TV network for the Yankees, but he's throwing out the first pitch. It's Alex Day, Mr. New York Sports himself. What's up, Alex?

Jake, thank you so much for the intro. Yesterday was one of the coolest days of my life, like dreaming of throwing the first pitch out at Yankee Stadium. You know, look, a one o'clock game on a Wednesday in July against Pittsburgh. That's not exactly the 2001 World Series where Jeter's saying don't bounce it.

You didn't have a bulletproof vest underneath?

**Alex Day** (1:30)
You know, not yesterday. I left that at home. But it was an awesome opportunity. And yeah, I'm not going to lie, it wasn't a strike. But I'm not making any mean pages. It was just a little bit high.

**Jake Asbin** (1:40)
Were you supposed to throw it out the day before and it got rained out because of the weather? Like, was that always your game? How did that all come together?

**Alex Day** (1:48)
No, that was my game. Thank you to Mountain Dew and the Yankees who have a partnership. They said, hey, can you be the spokesperson for this campaign?
Of course, any opportunity I could to throw out the first pitch at Yankee Stadium. So the makeup game was game two of the double header. So I was always locked in for the one o'clock game. I know there's a bigger crowd there for game two, so maybe I would have been a little bit more nervous for the nightcap. But for the one o'clock game, I was cool, calm, and collected.

Now I mentioned this last hour when I was talking about who you are, what you do, anyone who follows Alex Day on social media, you see all the content about New York sports you're putting out. You got a chance to talk with Jalen Brunson over the weekend at Fanatics Fest. In your interview, you posted it. You basically had him recite some of the iconic calls from the championship run, and he knew the Mike Breen play-by-play verbatim. It's clear he's obviously watching the highlights over and over again. That was an amazing idea you had him do.

Thank you so much. So I should have made this a little bit more clear, because when he was looking at his phone for anyone who saw the interview, I wrote down the transcript of the call and just had him read it as if he was reading lines for anything. But this guy is a winner at every level. He won in high school, he won twice in Villanova, and then he won with the Knicks. So I wanted him to dive in further to really what all those moments meant to him in the makings of a champion and him reciting the call for when he won in high school, and then him giving almost a creepy verbatim press conference after he won in high school versus Knicks to show how much it meant to him to win the state title in Illinois in 2015 as it did with the Knicks. It was very cool to see him take down his guard, and at the end of the day, he is just a guy, and he's the king of New York, but he's also a guy that you could really see yourself hanging with.

You've interviewed so many athletes, but with Brunson in particular, I know you've spoken to him a few times now. It's amazing how what you see is exactly who he is when he's not on the air. Is that fair to say?
