So how about that trade deadline, huh? That was something. Fourth day of August 2026 It is indeed the Kay Show. But Grasse is sitting in for you today at 800-919-3776.
That is the telephone number. I see Tom Bauer and Julian. They are going to be producing the program today. A lot of baseball, as you would imagine, on this day after, as we said, trade deadline 2026 And if you're a Mets fan, well, you're going to need a scorecard to identify the guys that are going to be on the field for the last 50 games of the season or whatever they have left, mostly out of the bullpen, of course, because David Stern said goodbye to a lot of the guys that usually come trotting out of that pen to help put out fires, as you would expect, because the Mets season has long, long been over, and it's already turned in the page to 2027 And then on the other hand, you have the New York Yankees. And we're going to obviously spend a lot of time with them today because, yeah, Yankees didn't do a lot yesterday, right? They really didn't, you know, at the trade deadline. Teams around them did. You know, teams around them got better on paper, but the Yankees themselves didn't really do all that much. And that's the story more than anything else.
It's not the action that the Yankees and Brian Cashman took at the deadline. It's more the inaction. And that probably is what has fans riled up today, and rightfully so, right? Rightfully so. And in the time leading up to the deadline, Yankees made a few trades, and they have two new players to show for it that were at least part of other teams in Major League Baseball. Luis Garcia Jr., we talked about it yesterday, comes over from the Nats, and certainly has quite the debut in Pinstripes. As he goes yard in a game last night, looked as if he was going to play the role of hero for about five minutes in that game last night. We should see Elliott Ramos a little bit later on tonight. They get him from the San Francisco Giants. And what was one of the wildest regular season games, as you'll probably see all season long, you know what, that's the back story today. Like that's not even the lead story, the big news, the mover and shaker when it comes to the Yankees, because it's once again, the things that the front office failed to do, which probably has fans the most riled up as they get set to digest what the rest of the season is going to look like for this baseball team. And I understand that there was a hefty price to pay on some occasions, right? I mean, the Boston Red Sox, I know that they got Adley Rutchman, and I know that he's currently on the injured list. And he's not even eligible to play for a couple of more weeks, probably until that wrist is healed. And they had to pay a pretty penny in terms of prospect capital to be able to get him aboard. And who knows if that's even going to turn out the way that everybody thinks it would, right? But Tampa Bay, a team that the Yankees are chasing, went out there and got better at the deadline as well.
So you have all the deadline stuff leading up to 6 o'clock. Then you have the game yesterday for the New York Yankees. And then, oh, by the way, just before you were tucking yourself into bed last night and letting a disappointing loss to the St. Louis Cardinals kind of simmer all throughout the night, you get news, or maybe you saw it when you woke up this morning, that the untouchable, right, the crown jewel of the Yankee farm system, George Lombard Jr. got the call up, and he is going to be making his major league debut later tonight at Yankee Stadium as they once again take on the St. Louis Cardinals.
