Coming to you live from Detroit, where tonight the Yankees will play the Tigers in the first game of a three game set. We're going to start with basketball very quickly. It's something I was thinking about all last night. If you're listening to Sham Sharania, our very own, saying that a Yanis and Tadokumpo deal is going to be done before the draft tomorrow. So it's going to be done within the next 36 hours in all likelihood. And it's come down to between the Miami Heat and the Boston Celtics. The Celtics are offering an MVP level player in Jalen Brown, less draft capital and the Heat offering more cost efficient players with a lot more draft capital. So we'll see which way the Milwaukee Bucks want to go. But I'm thinking this, why are the Nets not involved in this? Now I know that Yanis has to sign off on it, but I wonder if the Nets have even checked in. Because if the Nets are going to continue this slow rebuild, they have the sixth pick in the draft tomorrow. And you know, with the Nets luck, it's probably a five deep draft of really difference making players. So they have the sixth pick.
They're in a city looking for eyeballs with the defending NBA champions. Don't you think with all of the draft capital that they have accrued over the last couple of years, that they'd make a spirited run at Yanis? I mean, what are they selling to their fan base when the Knicks are selling, oh yeah, by the way, we're raising a banner on opening night, we're running it back with essentially the same team, and we're going to try to make it two in a row. What are the nets selling? Have they checked in with Milwaukee for Yanis, and sit down with Yanis and tell them, this is the plan, this is what we can do, these are the young players that we have, and this is what we feel that we can make happen in this place and you could be a part of it. Now you can say, well, it hasn't worked before, didn't work with the Boston Celtic trade, didn't work when they got Kyrie and Kevin Durant and James Harden. Yeah, I know it didn't work. Does that mean you stop trying? Are the nets even close to being a playoff team? That's my question, because now with the new rules, you really can't tank anymore. There's no real benefit to tanking. So are they really close to being a playoff team? If they got Yanis, they might be close to being a playoff team. Now, if they don't get Yanis and Yanis goes to the Celtics or the Heat, the Nets get pushed further down in the Eastern Conference where they have no chance whatsoever. Why are they not in play? They could give a treasure trove of draft picks over the next couple of years to the Milwaukee Bucks, who if they do trade Yanis on Tito Kumpel, they're rebuilding. The only way they're not rebuilding is if in fact they make the trade with the Celtics and they get Jalen Brown, who's a great player, but maybe they spin around and they trade Jalen Brown and get draft picks. Because according to Shams, these are one-one deals. It's not a third team involved, it's not a fourth team involved. Why are the Nets not involved? Are they content being the Nets? Are they content just sitting back and not competing? When you say, well, that's ridiculous. Of course, they've been content the last two years. They didn't try to win the last two years.
