And a good afternoon, everybody. This is indeed The Michael Kay Show. We thank you for joining us on this Friday, August 14th, 2026 It is an international edition of The Michael Kay Show, coming to you live from Toronto. It's me and you for two. Those are the rules of engagement. It's the fastest moving two hours in all of sports talk. It might be the fastest two hours moving of anything in life. That's how great it's been. And you've made it great because you're the co-host. You know the deal. 1-800-919-3776. That's the membership number or the application number to be a co-host. And today's show is extra special. You know why? It's a free-for-all Friday. Think about it, a free-for-all Friday. That means we could talk about anything, anything. You throw it at me, I'll lob it back. I might even smash it back. But that's the deal. Again, the membership number 1-800-919-3776.
All right, so the Yankees lost yesterday by a score of 1 to nothing. And I saw a stat on social media today that that's the 5th 1-0 loss that the Yankees have had at Yankee Stadium since the beginning of 2025 And in the previous 10 years, they didn't have 1, 1-0 loss at Yankee Stadium. Now, I'm not quite sure about how it started last year, because last year's offense was really good, and Judge won the MVP, and it didn't stagger the way it has staggered now. But if you look at the Yankees' last 3 losses, okay, they've been playing pretty good baseball. Nobody wants to admit that. But in their last 29 games, they're 18-11. That's pretty good. But their last 3 losses, 1-0 yesterday, 2-1 and 3-1. And that's how they lose games now. They get outstanding starting pitching. Yesterday, there's a little bit of a grind for Max Freed. He went 5 innings to 88 pitches, but he let his defense work, and he gave up one home run to Weston Wilson. And the way the Yankee offense is, that was enough. That was enough. So they end up losing 1-0. They threatened a couple of times, but they didn't have that many people on base. Logan Gilbert is really, really good. And Seattle snapped a 6-game losing streak with that victory. And they're in danger of falling out of it. Now, in terms of falling out of first place in the American League East, the Yankees have 41 games remaining. And they're 6.5 games behind Tampa Bay. 6.5 games. That's a lot to make up. Now, I know you have 4 games remaining with Tampa Bay at the end of September. But are you going to take all 4? I mean, what's the likelihood of taking all 4? And even if you take all 4, you still got to gain 3 more games. Now, if you take all 4, you do have the tiebreaker over them, so you don't have to gain one more game than the standing say.
But you put yourself behind the 8 ball. So it's almost a situation now where you look at it and you go, just stay ahead of the Red Sox. So the Red Sox have lost 5 in a row. They won yesterday, great job by Peyton Tolley. And with the Yankee lost, the Red Sox creep a little bit closer, but the Yankees still have an advantage, and they have four games at the end of this month at Yankee Stadium before the Yankees go on a West Coast trip. Now, when you look at the Yankee schedule, it's not daunting, but there are two things that do jump out at you. They have two more West Coast swings, two more. So after the Red Sox series, then you're going to go to Anaheim and San Diego. And then, there's one more road trip after that. Minnesota, and then at the end of the Minnesota series, you go to Phoenix. So it's not quite the West Coast, but you're heading West. And that's a lot at the end of the year. Usually, if your West Coast swing is done early, when you still got some life left in the body. Right now, you're probably dragging. But the one thing that the Yankees have to fix, I think everybody knows it, we're not breaking any new ground here. They've got to fix the offense.
