And good afternoon everybody. This is indeed The Michael Kay Show. We thank you for joining us on this Thursday, June 18th, 2026 Me and you, but not for two. It's for an hour and 27 minutes. The parade ran a little bit long. Bart and Carlin took it all the way up to Alicia Keys, and we certainly thank them for that. We want you involved. You know the password 1-800-919-3776.
Sometimes we lose sight of how big it is to win in New York. You can win anywhere else in the world. It's a small village now because of social media. So when the Cleveland Cavaliers win, it's a big deal. When the San Antonio Spurs win, it's a big deal. Oklahoma City wins, it's a big deal. There's no bigger deal than winning in New York. I'm sorry, there's not. Am I prejudiced? I was born in the Bronx. Of course, I'm prejudiced. But my prejudice does not obscure the fact that when you win here, as Frank said, when you make it here, you can make it anywhere. These men that played for the New York Knicks, they were just fed it on the floats and the parade route. And then the ceremony at City Hall, they are now part of forever. They will never have to buy a drink. They won't have to buy a meal in New York City. Ask any of the Yankees that won those championships. They are royalty in New York.

If you've done it here, it's a little bit more special. And then to be on City Hall's steps and receive the key to the city and have Alicia Keys finish it off with her music, it was just amazing. I hope that if you were at the parade, you enjoyed it. It seemed like it was well done. Some people complained about the suffocating security, but welcome to the world in which we live. Security has to be suffocating. Sometimes people are left out. Sometimes people can't get into where they want to go.
And it's all in the name of safety. So we give kudos and a hat tip to the great people of the NYPD to make it safe. And that's all there is to it. The ceremony on the steps at City Hall, emceed by my lifelong friend Mike Breen, was outstanding. I thought Mayor Mamdani gave an unbelievable speech.
And you could see certainly why he is a politician and was elected to be mayor of the city because boy can he talk. He gave a rousing speech. And then, in turn, Jim Dolan, the owner of the NICs, who has made it no secret that he's not in love with Zoran Mamdani, he said, I don't have to give a speech. I don't need your vote. I don't need to reset everything that the NICs have done over the years.
So that was a shot at Mamdani. And you could tell he didn't even want to be in the picture with the mayor when he took the key to the city. But that's petty stuff anyway. The main stuff is that the NICs got the keys to the city. They got the love that only this city could really shower on a winning team. It's just great. Boston has the duck boat tours. Every single city has its own little thing. But nothing like the Canyon of Heroes, nothing. You know, I had a long talk with Mike Breen yesterday about what to expect because I've been lucky enough, John Sterling and I MC'd five of them. And I said what you'll really be stunned by is when you look down the side streets and there's only people lined up, shoulder to shoulder, chest to chest, chest to back. And that's all the eye can see.
