Jake has been in for Michael as we take you till 3 right here on Espn New York and the Espn New York YouTube channel presented by the Parisman firm. A lot to talk about. Brian Cashman has till 6 p.m. to save the Yankee season. That's how I viewed today. Brian Cashman has less than five hours to make the necessary moves if the Yankees want any chance of winning a World Series. He made one big move yesterday. And if you're a Yankee fan, it's tough to complain about Luis Garcia Jr. for four right-handed pitchers, good riddance to Jake Bird being among the four. But there needs to be more moves and some of the options for the Yankees, especially the catching options, seemingly are dwindling. And the latest news that we got is that it seems like one of those catching options might be going to a different team in the Yankee division. Adley Rushman to the Red Sox seems like is about to go down. The Red Sox is reviewing the medicals whether or not they're going to sign off on the deal. Rushman would have made a lot of sense for the Yankees. He can't say, well, would the Orioles trade them to the Yankees? They're about to trade them to the Red Sox. So that's the latest there.
You look at some of the other deals that have happened today. Luis Arais who I thought would have made perfect sense for the Yankees, he goes to the Phillies. And look, I think in a way you could say, well, getting Garcia Jr. similar to Arais because it's not like there's an exact position for him. Like if the Yankees are fully healthy, then it's a conversation, well, who actually starts in a playoff game. But let's worry about that down the line. The Yankees looked at Garcia. They know he could hit. Get him in the lineup. He could platoon and be an elite platoon player for them. And he's gonna play 80% of the time. All right, the guy is gonna go out there and he will mash right-handers, which is the vast majority of pitchers you see anyway. And that's similar with a rise, not that he platoon necessarily, but there was an exact, an exact fit. And then you'd have to move jazz and maybe the Yankees felt like they would not be able to find the right team to be able to do all that. So they choose, in my opinion, Garcia over a rise, although who wouldn't want both? It's not like the Phillies gave up a ton necessarily to get them. But Garcia is also signed for next year. And we know Brian Cashman likes to make moves where you can improve your team for the current season you're in. And also you could set your team up going into the upcoming offseason. I have the Yankees made a bunch of moves a year ago. Ironically, two of those moves were to bring in Jake Bird and to bring in Camilo Deval, who now are both off the team a year later. But they got Bednar. And that worked. And Bednar was excellent for the Yankees. And he's been excellent this year. So I think it's part of the reason why they ultimately go with Garcia over a rise, if we assume the reporting was accurate that the Yankees were in on him, but the fit wasn't great. All right, I can live with it. But the Yankees can't be done. Again, they had till 6 p.m. before I'm going to totally go scorched to earth on the Yankee front office, but this team clearly needs another catcher. I understand it's not ideal to trade for a catcher in the middle of the season. I get it, it's not. Cashman has famously said he doesn't like doing that. He felt like it didn't work when they acquired Pudge Rodriguez in a trade deadline deal. But I'm sorry, Austin Wells, you play him every day. It's like having a pitcher hit for you. Honestly, I'll take Cece Sabathia up there at the plate over Austin Wells. You just get nothing from the guy. He's great defensively. Awesome. That's not good enough. Sacrifice a little defense to get some offensive firepower. How about just competency? You're not even asking for much.
