And a good afternoon, everybody. This is indeed The Michael Kay Show. We thank you for joining us on this Wednesday, June 10th, 2026 Me and you for two. Those are the rules of engagement, fastest two hours of sports talk radio. If you want to be a co-host, you know the password 1-800-919-3776.
I know you usually need a capital letter and some kind of exclamation point, but that's the password 1-800-919-3776.
Game four of the NBA finals tonight at Madison Square Garden. Game four. The Knicks lost a game, game three that everybody is still talking about. And the bottom line is stop talking about the officials. Stop talking about the refs. Every game you could point to one bad call for either side that a ref made. Every single one. That's not the way to look at why the Knicks lost in game three. The Knicks lost in game three. They had 18 assists for the game. They stood around. They watched Jalen Brunson dribble. Jalen Brunson has not played well. Jalen Brunson is being hounded by younger, taller defenders. The Knicks have to fix that tonight. That's all there is to it. Forget about flagrant foul one, flagrant foul two, because I'm going to tell you something that's stark and it's real and you have to accept it. The NBA is not going to allow Victor Wemby Yamma to be suspended. They're not. Now, if you say that's unfair, maybe it is. It certainly is unfair, but those are the rules of engagement. They looked at the play where he shoved Jalen Brunson's head down to the court and they said, upon further review, it is not a flagrant one. And you know why they didn't want to give him a flagrant one? Because he already has two points on his system after the Nasrid elbow. He has two points. If they gave him a flagrant one retroactively, it would have been three points. Then the next flagrant one would have been four points. Four points earns you a suspension, a one-game suspension. He's not getting suspended other than maybe paralyzing a Nick or decapitating a Nick. He's not getting suspended. So we have to look and operate under the rules in which we know are in effect. And they're not overt. They haven't been spoken to by Adam Silver. They know. They just know. We're not going to suspend Victor Wemba Nyama. So stop the crying and work around it because despite the misflagrant one, which was at least a flagrant one, the Knicks had an opportunity to win and they didn't. They didn't win because they didn't play well. And if you look at the three games that we've seen so far in the finals, have the Knicks played their best game yet? No, they had a great quarter in game one. They showed toughness and resilience in game two, and they could not come back totally in game three. But they had opportunities to win and they did not. Blame it on what they're doing wrong. In three fourth quarters in the NBA finals, Carl Anthony Towns has not scored one single point. In three games, Jalen Brunson has 82 points on 81 shots. Three games, Jalen Brunson has 13 turnovers to 13 assists. I wrote this one down because it jumped out at me.
Jalen Brunson has taken 44 shots after hanging on to the ball or dribbling the ball for six or more seconds. The Knicks are getting back to what got them in trouble in the first three games against the Hawks and for a lot of the regular season. Even Mike Brown admitted it after the game three loss. We're standing around watching Jalen Brunson. They can't do that. They can't do that. They've got to stop. They've got to move the ball. Terrible games in game three for Cat. Terrible game for Mikael Bridges. I'm not going to jump them for having one bad game because after two games, Cat was the MVP of the series so far. And after two games, we were talking about, wow, that was worth the five first round draft picks. All of it is true. It's right there in front of you. Now, let's get back to Wemby being dirty. You know, Stefan Marbury, who played in China for many years, he released a video on Instagram and said, that's the way they play overseas. They play dirty and you have to deal with it. You have to deal with it. The elbow to Nas Reed was really dirty. That's why as great as Wemby is, they throw him out of the game and gave him a flagrant too. Because it was so overt, they couldn't do anything but just say, yeah, he's got to go. And that served as a suspension. But remember, they could have suspended him afterward, and they didn't do it. They could have fined him when he didn't meet with the media after one of the games in the Western Conference Finals. They didn't do it. He is the golden child of the NBA. Now, to give you a perfect example of somebody that's not the golden child, a couple of years ago, what was it, a decade ago now? Draymond Green took a swing at the groin of LeBron James. When it was reviewed after the game, they decided to give him a flagrant, and that put him over the four-point threshold, and he missed a game in the finals. And you know what happened? Golden State lost a 3-1 lead and lost the title to the Cleveland Cavaliers. Why was Draymond Green taken out of the game? Because he's Draymond Green. He's not the face of the league. If it had been Steph Curry, they wouldn't have done it. And if it had been LeBron James, they wouldn't have done it. They did it to Draymond Green, who was enough of a knucklehead that he took that swing at LeBron's Crown Jewels, and the bottom line is he got caught, and he got flagged, and he got suspended for one game, and that led to the Cavaliers coming back from a 3-1 deficit. But you could do that to Draymond Green. You could do that to Josh Hart. You could do that to any number of the players that are in this series. You cannot do it to Wemby. You can't. He's an international superstar. So not only does he bring eyeballs to ABC, he brings eyeballs to everybody overseas that is consuming this series. Imagine if you sat Wemby down for a game. Sorry, they wouldn't be watching the way they watch in France and all of Europe. So we got to get that out of the way. Now, there are ways to combat him, and a lot of people don't agree with me, and a lot of people say, what are you, a barbaric idiot? You got to give it right back to him. I love what Jose Alvarado said, and you could tell Alvarado is a New Yorker baby. I'll read the quote, I wrote it down. He said, he got away with one there. That'll be the last one. That's the way the Knicks have to think. And I love the, you know, the polypure breads and the Mother Teresas that are consuming this. Oh, you can't stoop down to their level. No, no, no. Okay. So you mean let them stoop down to the level, but not you.
