Two o'clock straight up!
It's The Carton Show with Big Mac on a gorgeous Thursday afternoon in New York City. Phone number to join as always, 888-808-1019.
Got a great show for you today as we are now with football every week up until the Super Bowl. We got a little Hall of Fame action tonight. We got some Jets and Jots stuff to get to as well. But of course, last night, let's just do the Yankees real quick and get it out of the way because I don't care who they bring up. I don't care if he's the second coming of Derek Jeter. I don't care what lineup they put out there. This is an unwatchable, boring mess. That's what the New York Yankees are. They have no offense. They don't score any runs. I don't want to hear people all day going, they just see the play behind second base, same exact play. Volpe didn't make a month and a half ago.
I don't care because as good as the kid might be, he fell right into line with the rest of the offense in not scoring runs. The Yankees are an unwatchable mess right now. And let's judge and stand and come back and hit the cover off the ball. If you're not winning the division, you're not going to be the number one wild card team, and you better hope for a lot of one nothing, two one games come October.

**SPEAKER_3** (1:44)
Well, yeah, I mean, look, the offense is...

**Craig Carton** (1:46)
Your microphone's not working.
His mic's not working, or maybe it's not potted up. If we could fix that, that'd be awesome. But there you go.

**Chris McMonigle** (1:55)
There I am. All good. All right.

**SPEAKER_5** (1:57)
OK, as I was saying somewhere to myself, yeah, the offense sucks. And what's most disappointing is I don't know if I agree with you last night in particular, when you say it was boring. They had runners on all over the place. They had runners every stick and anything they can't come through with a big hit to save their lives. No, they got they got what was it? Eight walks in the game. How do you get eight walks and score one run?

**SPEAKER_2** (2:20)
Eight walks and one run?

**Craig Carton** (2:22)
You scored the run on a walk.

**SPEAKER_5** (2:23)
And you did score the run on a walk, but God forbid you come through the base hit with runners in scoring position. for 10 Again, that's the story of this team. And yes, Lombard's great. The defense, not even just that smooth little pick with the ball hit hard at him, but the up the middle dive and to get up and make the throw. I'm telling you, it's a beautiful thing to watch. We're all happy about it. But you're right. The team stinks. They're now tied, a game back, but tied in the lost column with the Boston Red Sox, who never lose. They are 30 and 5 in their last 35 games. That's insane. It's insane what Boston's doing. Tampa Bay keeps winning. And you're right.
It's at the point.
I'm almost done worrying about the division.

**Chris McMonigle** (3:03)
You can't worry about it right now.

**SPEAKER_5** (3:05)
It's just hanging on for dear life.

**Chris McMonigle** (3:07)
It's five in the lost column.

**SPEAKER_5** (3:08)
Now, the starting pitching's been great, and they had been winning games. This is the first series they've lost since the Dodger series. They played relatively well despite not scoring runs, at least as far as winning baseball games go. And they'll head into this series against Atlanta, who's playing well with their three best pitchers. You're going to see Cole, you're going to see Freed Friday night, you're going to see Kam Schlitler. They're throwing their three best against the Atlanta Braves. And you're going to find out whether or not this offense can do enough to win those games when those guys are on the mound. But yeah, every single night, it is an exercise in frustration watching this team be unable to come through with runners in the scoring position. And yeah, there's things that can be done. We're arguing about, obviously, Sanchez comes up as the last out of the game. You never want to see that. But it's about trying to manufacture runs in any way possible. And this team, it's just so frustrating to watch this group.

**Craig Carton** (4:00)
I do have some good news for you, though.
There is some good news that can be very similar, I think, to what happened last year. Now what happened last year? Well, in the month of September, the New York Yankees went on a run, right? And everyone said, well, but who are they really playing? It doesn't matter who you play. Everyone's got the same schedule, pretty much, right?
