It's The Carton Show with Big Mac on a gorgeous Tuesday afternoon in New York City. Phone number to join, as always, 888-808-1019.

As we get started, football season is here. We got a game tomorrow, we got a game on Thursday. We got the Jets and Giants on Sunday afternoon and Sunday night, and right out of the gate, the New York Giants embarrassed themselves and decide to, frankly, do wrong by a guy who's been a consummate professional on this roster since 2019 Good afternoon, Big Mac. How are you today, kid?

Chris McMonigle (0:46)

I'm doing fantastic. Great to be back, Craig.

SPEAKER_3 (0:49)

Great to have you back. Yes.

Chris McMonigle (0:50)

It felt like you stopped working at the station for a while, but I'm glad you're back.

Craig Carton (0:54)

I enjoyed it. I enjoyed every bit of it. Chopped a lot of wood, got a lot of wood left to chop. I was in LA for a couple of days with little Wayne, and more or less stayed in my backyard, and didn't do all that much. That being said, the New York Giants did Darius Slayton wrong.

Darius Slayton, I know he had too many drops for most Giant fans. I get that.

SPEAKER_3 (1:17)

I understand that.

Chris McMonigle (1:18)

For every Giant fan.

Craig Carton (1:20)

That's fine. And that's part of his resume here.

SPEAKER_3 (1:22)

Yes, it is.

Craig Carton (1:22)

As the New York Giants started in 2019, 700 yards, 700 yards, 700 yards, 700 yards.

Only 37 catches the last couple of years. 37, 39 But what did Darius Slayton do to the New York Giants? That they would mistreat him and make it hard for him to remain a starting wide receiver in the NFL. And then further than that, now that you've cut Darius Slayton, who's better than Darius Slayton that's going to be an every game wide receiver for the New York Giants? Ain't going to be Malik Neighbors.

Chris McMonigle (2:01)

Why not?

Craig Carton (2:01)

You hope it is.

Chris McMonigle (2:02)

Don't you think that this is a signal that Malik Neighbors is healthy and going to play?

Craig Carton (2:06)

No, to me this is a signal.

Chris McMonigle (2:07)

You don't think this is a signal that Fields is the number two and they feel good about him? Like there is no depth. We've talked about it.

Craig Carton (2:14)

None whatsoever.

Chris McMonigle (2:15)

There is no depth at this wide receiver position. They just released or cut or whatever, the only wide receiver on the roster that's like played any snaps with the quarterback, right? You mentioned it. He is, I don't know what, I think it's three of the last five years has led the team in receiving yards. Like this is a guy who's been a professional. I do think he's had some killer drops, but he's been a solid wide receiver as a fifth round pick for the New York Giants, but the time was over. It was over. He looked terrible in camp. He clearly was down on the, from the organization, down on the coach, and down on the depth chart to the point where I guess they were probably trying to move in and seeing if they could get something for him until they finally decided that that was a fruitless endeavor and they decided to cut him. But this is the NFL. This is a professional sports league. You get cut when you get cut.

Craig Carton (3:04)

They didn't do anything wrong to him.

Chris McMonigle (3:06)

He'll get picked up somewhere. It was a little surprising to see him get cut yesterday.

Craig Carton (3:10)

As the NFL kicks off tomorrow night with a repeat of last year's Super Bowl during the Patriots-Seattle Seahawks, and then Thursday, of course, we get the Australia game with the Rams and the Niners. Yeah, he'll be okay. Yeah, he'll be okay.

What did Darius Slayton do to deserve for the New York Giants to wait until 24 hours before the season begins to cut him from the team, making it very hard for him to join a team where he's going to have a chance to really play? Because as you know, most rosters, 98%, 99% set. 24 hours before week one, they screwed Darius Slayton. I'll tell you this, memo to every single player that plays for the New York Giants, you might be next. Yeah. You might be next.

Chris McMonigle (3:56)

I hope they get that message.

Craig Carton (3:58)

You might be next.

Chris McMonigle (3:59)

That's the exact message I hope they all get.

Craig Carton (4:02)

Listen, don't worry about showing up and being a professional. Don't worry about outperforming where you got drafted. Don't worry about being a great teammate.
